It’s the first week of 2016 – and crazily enough, also of my winter quarter. How’s 2016 been for you so far? Are you back to reality after the holidays? Let’s catch up real quick before we start looking ahead. Sound good?
My parents drove me back to Chicago on Saturday. I slept for about half the car ride, which is rare but awesome. Since I couldn’t move back in until Sunday, the three of us spent the night near campus, ate Chipotle for dinner, had candy for dessert, and played Catan (I won again!).
It was a delicious, super-relaxing, and all-around lovely last night with my family.
On Sunday, my dad helped me haul supplies back to the apartment.
It wasn’t embarrassing at all how much Diet Coke I brought back. Okay, it was. It’ll last for a while, though…
I was the first of my roommates back, and after I unpacked everything from break, we picked my mom up from the hotel and went grocery shopping. Let me tell you, there is something magical about grocery shopping with an actual car to help transport the food, and you don’t appreciate it fully until you do most of your shopping by bus.
Before my parents left, they treated me to a wonderfully satisfying lunch at Potbelly. We said goodbye, and I spent the rest of the day tending to emails I’d been putting off and catching up with friends after break.
Yesterday, winter quarter started. Exciting. Let’s talk about that!
{Let’s not talk about the fact that I still take “first day of school” pictures…}
I’m taking four classes again this quarter. I have the second class in my Self, Culture, and Society sequence (the “culture” portion) on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and I’ll be taking Intro to Western Art Music on Mondays and Wednesdays. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I’ll have the first of two main macroeconomics classes for the econ major and statistics. Plus whatever problem sessions and discussion sections pop up. My schedule isn’t bad at all, my classes are at pretty ideal times, and my midterms aren’t all piled on top of each other, but looking at my very-full calendar is still a bit of a shock after the last three weeks. And in my abundant spare time, there are friends to hang out with and applications to fill out (summer is just around the corner). I’m looking forward to getting back in the swing of things and seeing what the quarter brings, though.
Around here, be on the lookout for some easy recipes (girl’s gotta eat ?), day-in-the-life posts, and lots of other fun stuff. As always, feel free to let me know if there’s something in particular you’d like to see on the blog. Aaand thanks for sticking with me as we start the new year!
Are you back to reality yet this year? Or are you still in holiday mode?
Oh, and I’m taking part in the #BGBInstaChallenge until January 17. Come follow along and see what I’m up to!

I still have 2 more weeks (thank god!!!) I’m kinda excited for one of my classes this semester. It’s current moral and social issues in society. Seems pretty interesting, haha!

Oooh that does sound really interesting. Wow – you have so much more time! Enjoy!
Omg all that Diet Coke!!! That’s gotta be a workout hauling all that in! I use drink sticks if I want something that’s not water. Super lightweight and I can use my water bottle. I really enjoyed my macroeconomic classes. It helps you in other areas of life as well like time management and sometimes I remember learning about how to allocate resources for maximum resourcefulness. I hope you have a good teacher. That helps
Good teachers can make pretty much any class better!
Love your first day of school outfit 😉 Potbelly is SO good! I’ve only been their once a long time ago and wanna go back! Have a great day <3
Blessings,
Edye
Thanks, Edye! I love sandwiches, so anywhere with good ones is fine by me 🙂 Have a fabulous day!
Happy 2016!! I’m still in holiday mode myself – I have 3 more weeks before I go back to school which is crazy!! But I’m looking forward to reading your posts this semester to get more ideas for college life and mentally prepare myself to get back to work. Good luck with your classes!

Wow! That’s so much more time! Enjoy your break 🙂
You picked out the best candy. Reese’s and Hershey’s is all I need! Wishing you all the best for your Winter Quarter!
Haha and that doesn’t include the peanut M&M’s from earlier. Chocolate and peanut butter for life!
Thanks, Julia 🙂
Good luck in your next college semester! I promise they fly by so fast, so embrace them while they’re here. 🙂 Also, too funny about all the diet cokes. I was that way about Snapple in college.
I definitely try to enjoy them 🙂 Haha I can’t believe I’ve never had Snapple! We all have our “thing”.
Still have a little less than 2 weeks before I go back to school, but I am most definitely on break mode still. And you really did pick the best candy-reese’s and hershey’s are so yummy. Good luck in your next semester at college!
Enjoy the rest of your break! 😀
I am most definitely still on holiday mode right now, haha. Glad that your schedule isn’t too bad and that your midterms aren’t all in the same week (that was the worst ._.). Best of luck to you this quarter, and yay for the BGB instagram challenge! I’m doing that too! :]!
Thanks, Farrah! Your pictures have been looking great! 🙂
My boss just got back from a 3 week vacation which is nice in some ways, I have fewer responsibilities, and more difficult in other ways because now I have someone to report to! Hope you have a great winter quarter.
