Hey there! Happy Thinking Out Loud Thursday. I know we caught up a lot yesterday (and ate buckeyes – don’t forget the chocolate), but that was all by the numbers and there’s stuff happening in my life and mind that’s not really quantifiable. That’s what today is for. Let’s chat!
1.) Before I came back to school, I told you that my mom and I got mani-pedis.
Gel nail polish usually lasts me a good two or three weeks, but I guess the moving process was too intense because it’s been a week and a half and my nails are chipping. I would show you, but my cuticles also look awful. What’s up with that? I mean, I almost cut off my left thumb chopping onions, so it’s acceptable that my only injury was a nail chip, but my other fingers should not be having issues.
2.) Yesterday, it was gross and dark and humid when I woke up, but I checked the forecast and it said no rain. I was skeptical. When I came back from the gym, it said no rain. Still skeptical. When I got out of the shower, same. Twenty minutes later, it was pouring. Okay.
3.) The grad students that live with us have a 1.5 year old and a 4 year old and they can actually make my day by walking into the room. When I met them, they both reached out to shake my hand. Aaaand my heart melted.
4.) My aunt has resumed texting me pictures of my cousins and her thoughts on Gilmore Girls, which also makes my day.
5.) Are you a bacon person or a sausage person? I went through a long period of hating sausage, mostly because of its texture. I slowly came around to chorizo and andouille because I love the flavor so much. Then, I started to love chicken sausage (still do). And now I voluntarily eat ground sausage instead of picking it out of dishes. Like, I actually made a dish for myself with sausage.
I’m still head over heels for bacon, but I’ll give sausage a time and place.
6.) Speaking of making food for myself, I actually made enough food on Tuesday night to serve as the week’s lunches and dinners. Given that the days are long and my breaks are short, I’m super grateful to have burgers and Pizza Spaghetti Pie to enjoy when I need food. I’m sometimes totally unmotivated to meal prep, but it’s honestly so helpful. Also, you can make buckeyes for some snack prep, since we all know that chocolate cravings are emergency situations.

7.) Nobody cried during my scheduling meetings yesterday and most people were just extremely grateful that we got them the classes they did get. It was sweet.
8.) One of my favorite stories from the day was totally unrelated to the student’s registration, though. We were running ahead of schedule, so my adviser called the next student to ask him if he could come in early. He has one of those voicemail messages where he acts like he picked up the phone and can’t hear the person on the other line, though, which my adviser totally fell for.
When he did come in, she teased him about it. Turns out, he created it in 7th grade and doesn’t know the password to change it. Despite calling AT&T multiple times to try to work it out, it’s the same 6 years later.
{Forever grateful that my parents warned me against making a stupid email address}
9.) I got this idea from Dan a while back and am finally implementing it. I made myself a teeny tiny “chore chart” kind of thing. It’s for one chore: physical therapy. I’m so good at saying that I’ll do it right before bed or right after I shower and then… not. I haven’t decided what my prize is when I do it all week long. But there should totally be a prize.
10.) And now I want to leave you with some of my favorite recipes + reads from the week.

Your turn:
Do you prefer bacon or sausage?
Did you ever have an embarrassing email/voicemail?
Anything else I should know?

I don’t even know what my voicemail is set at……I think it just says my number with the programmed generic voice. I once had this really weird one when I was in 6th grade…my mom got bad at me and made me switch it….I left a totally “bitchy” message, hahahaha!

Haha that sounds like sixth grade me ? Mine is just the default voicemail too.
Voicemail? What is that?
Glad nobody cried during your meetings. Though I have to say, I I like sausage (we have it a lot around here) but nothing beats crispy bacon 😀
LOL texting for the win.
Um yes please. I can always go for crispy bacon (and crispy cheese… and crispy roasted vegetables…).
My mom says I sound “tired” in my voicemail haha but my iPhone WON’T let me change it….so tired me it is! Glad to hear it sounds like your school year is off to a good start!
Hahaha I feel like mine would sound a little tired, too 🙂
I used to dislike sausage as well! Now I love them both and eat them probably about once a week. I am more of a fan of chicken or turkey sausage though and also like to make it myself.
I seriously love chicken sausage! Oooh I should try making it myself sometimes. That sounds like a fun little project!
Hmm…. I think I’m more of a sausage gal actually; we had the most interesting sausage I’ve ever had in Ireland. They eat it a lot there.
Oh that’s interesting! Sounds like I need to do some traveling!
I like sausage, but I LOVE bacon. That breakfast looks fantastic, and so do those buckeyes! I’m going to have to check them out! 😀
My first email address was “cblotr” (my initials + “Lord of the Rings”) but thankfully I switched over to a gmail one in high school so I don’t have to give that out anymore, haha!
Bacon is my fave, too. I hope you love the buckeyes 🙂
Hahaha mine probably would’ve had something Harry Potter related honestly.
I recently just got rid of my voicemail message because I couldn’t stand the sound of my voice (even though my mom’s the only one who calls me, and she “loves my voice.”). It’s the automated response now. The chore chart is a great idea! I might implement that for hamstring stretching.
LOL that’s so something my mom would say.
Can I be a bacon AND sausage person? But turkey bacon and chicken sausage for me, please!
I just got my mani/pedi done too before coming back to Harrogate, TN where I live. There aren’t too many nail salons here so I take advantage of the days I travel!
Of course you can be both! They’re both pretty darn tasty 🙂
I actually don’t love bacon or sausage. I can take little bits of bacon in things sometimes but I have never really been a huge fan! And sausage – nuh uh!
As for voicemail.. I feel like mine is embarrassing just because I can hear my voice back haha!
My current email may or may not be named after my American Girl doll I got for Christmas seven years ago….
Don’t tell anyone 😉
