Hey there! Welcome to another edition of Thinking Out Loud! It’s been a while since I popped in because it’s been a strange week and I’m about to start finals. So, today I’m taking the opportunity to tell you what’s been on my mind. Thanks for the link-up, Amanda!
1.) Thanksgiving break was awesome. Full of food, relaxation, football, baking, hockey, and family. It was the best, and it made me even more excited for winter break (which I will be on at this time next week!).
2.) In a very un-me move, I did no homework while I was away. I came back to school on Sunday afternoon and dove into some Spanish homework to get ahead for the upcoming week. Granted, the homework was watching a movie (También la Lluvia – it was pretty good), so it was kind of easing back into the “work” mindset.
3.) While I was watching said movie, the university president sent out this email.
So, that was a little scary.
4.) Monday, well, there were no classes. We pretty much all spent the day in the dorm, even though the threat seemed to be resolved by about 1:30 pm (update here). My teachers sent out class updates, though, and my sosc teacher sent prompts for our final essay. I spent the day finishing the reading necessary for that (Max Weber’s The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism), snacking endlessly, and trying to plan the essay in hopes of making finals week a little less icky.
5.) With extra security in place, Tuesday was a normal day of classes. It was also the day I actually made progress on my essay.
6.) Wednesday was the last day of classes for fall quarter! And the day I pretty much finished a rough draft of my essay. It’s not due until next Wednesday, so now I can work on polishing it over the next week, but mostly shift my attention to studying for my exams. That was the goal.
7.) Aaaand today is technically the start of reading period, where there are no classes. We do have econ office hours this morning, though, and a make-up non-mandatory sosc class, since we missed out on Monday’s discussion. Technically, reading period is 100% study/fun time. I usually make it mostly study time, and this one won’t be much different ?
8.) Since exams are coming up (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for me), I probably won’t post again before Wednesday. Thanks for sticking with me and understanding the craziness.
9.) We did a photo session with a local photographer last Friday. I leave you with a bunch of family pictures!
Have a wonderful Thursday – and a great weekend! Talk to you soon(ish)!
What are you thinking about this week?

You wouldn’t be biased or anything, though 😉
I love the photos!!! They are so beautiful 🙂 Good good luck on finals!! (And stay safe!)
Thanks, Rebecca! Glad they’re over now!
Campus security has been crazy today and yesterday. The mass shooting is only an hour away from us, so we are all on high defense today. The world is sad. 🙁
I hope you’re all doing okay ❤️
Good luck with finals!!! And I love the pictures of your family.
Thanks so much, Mindy!
Aw, I loveloveLOVE the pics of you and your family!! Absolutely stunning and so sweet! So sorry about the shooting scare…glad nothing came of it. Best of luck with finals!
Thanks, Hannah ?
Good luck with your studies, lovely! You’re going to rock those finals 😀 And I seriously love your family pictures! I’ve been meaning to get some professional shots done for ages now, and I think it’s finally time to get on top of that.
It’s so easy to put off the photo shoots, but I’m always so happy with the result!
Your family is perfect! The photographer did a wonderful job. Good luck on finals! I will keep your school in my prayers. This violence must end!
Thanks so much, Ellie. All the violence is terrifying.
Love the family and the family pictures. Buena suerte con los exámenes. Yo no estoy preocupada por ti.
Gracias! The Spanish exam worked out pretty well, at least 🙂
I love your dog! What a sweet heart!
Thank you! I love her!
You look beautiful in your family pictures! I hope your finals are going well and will be over soon! Christmas break is the light at the end of the horrible finals tunnel 🙂 We actually had a couple of similar incidents at my school recently with online Yik Yak threats or a phone tip about a potential shooter. Fortunately, both turned out to be false alarms but wow, it’s such a scary thing!
Thanks so much, Liv! I hope your finals go well and I’m glad your school has stayed safe!
