Happy Thinking Out Loud Thursday! It’s probably a gross and rainy day in Chicago, but I hope wherever you are is sunny and gorgeous (unless you don’t like that sort of thing…?). In case you missed it, on Monday I gave my thoughts on the logistics of yoga teacher training, and today I’m going to give my thoughts on, well, everything else. Almost. Ready? Cool.
1.) I am 99% sure that I’ve found my least stressful quarter of college.
- One of my econ classes has all of three homework assignments all quarter.
- My other one has two papers due. One’s a group paper.
- My psych class has straightforward weekly quizzes.
- I have three class days and four no-class days a week.
- All my classes are actually pretty interesting.
- I have no midterms.
Perfect for soaking it all in.
2.) The summer between my junior and senior years of high school, I watched all of Grey’s Anatomy up to that point (#productive). I continued watching with my mom until I left for college. Then, as with so many shows, I stopped watching once I came to school because I had other ways I wanted/needed to spend time, and it felt less convenient to watch on my computer.
Well, I don’t even know who some of the characters are anymore, and I know the show jumped the shark ages (and ages) ago. But over spring break, I watched one episode with my mom and fell back in love with the melodrama and semi-senseless story.
Well, this quarter is a little less crazy than the previous ones, so there has been a lot more TV-watching than ever before. Last Friday, before I started my most recent Netflix addiction (more on that tomorrow), I decided to watch last week’s episode. And I promptly bawled my eyes out.
3.) I decided that I wanted to give SoulCycle a shot before I leave Chicago, so I went last Saturday morning before a massage and shopping trip.
Verdict: super fun, but I so not coordinated enough for the choreography. I’ll go a few more times before I leave, though!
4.) Yesterday morning, my roommate asked me if I was extra stressed about classes. No… why? Turns out, I’ve been talking about problem sets in my sleep. Sweet. Apparently, I’m still stressed from the last quarter(s).
5.) Given my lack of an intense workload and an undersupply of volunteer hosts , I signed up to host a prospective student. Basically, this means a high schooler is going to be crashing on our couch tonight. Still, it’s the kind of thing I always thought I would do in college, but then I got here and have been busy for 2.5 years and I haven’t done it. But I will tonight.
6.) You might have gathered that I like dogs. Anyway, this Twitter feed is just a ton of cute dogs doing cute things and I can’t handle how much I love it.
7.) I had a doctor’s appointment yesterday, scheduled for 3:30. Thanks to delays on delays, I left around 6:15. I’ve been seeing too many doctors for years, so I’m used to it, but blech.
8.) I’m so grateful for the lab techs, though. They were closing up for the night when I got to the lab at 5:56, but they went ahead and did my lab work so I wouldn’t have to come back today.
9.) My mom suggested I start playing Disney Emoji Blitz because when you unlock levels, you get Disney emoji to use in real life messaging.
Ugh. I don’t need another game to be hooked on, but… Disney emoji!
10.) And now I want to leave you with some of my favorite recipes & reads from the week.
- For when it’s finally warmer? –> Honey Citrus Morning Green Smoothie
- Kind of bread, kind of cake, totally perfect. –> Greek Yogurt Lemon Loaf
- Salmon is always a good idea. –> Crisp Salmon Cakes
- Shameless plug. –> What Does It Actually Mean to Listen to Your Body?
- Your health is different than everyone else’s. –> On Creating Your Own Personal Health and Wellness
Your turn:
Do you experience residual stress?
What’s something you thought you would do in college, but didn’t/don’t?
Anything else I should know?

I basically can’t sleep through the night without an anxiety dream and a night sweat, so I feel you there. My question is, were you talking about your classes in your sleep? How else would she know that was what it was about? Or was she just guessing?
EllenSlater says
I mean, I was talking about homework in my sleep. The exact classes were unclear ?
Well this semester will be different for you! Hopefully some extra time to do some of the things you’ve always wanted to do…like host that student (they are going to feel SOO cool hanging around college kids) and take those fitness classes. Hopefully this also means the nightmare talking stops! aha!
It already feels so different. Takes some getting used to, but I’m liking it overall!

I love cute dogs too; they always make me laugh/smile at the same time.
And I”m so thrilled that you are having the least stressful semester. Taking extra fitness classes sounds like a fun way to fill extra time + extra rest.
Thanks, Emily! Lots of exploring to do in the city!
No midterms?!?! You go girl! I’m glad you have that! College is ridiculously stressful. It’s about time you get a breather.
In college, I always thought I’d join attend lots of sporting events. Turns out, not for me! Too many people.
I thought I’d go to sporting events, too. I love sports, but it’s not really my school’s thing ?
Stress is, unfortunately, a constant companion of mine. My mom’s a constant worrier, so it’s in the genes! I always thought I would study abroad in college; however, since I got full funding as long as I was at my actual college (my senior year, my college changed to allow financial aid to apply to study abroad…major sadness). it never happened. But fingers crossed I’ll travel sometime!
And congrats on having an easier last semester. You def deserve it. And I started bingeing Grey’s Anatomy from the very beginning a few months ago, and made it through season 5 I think? Maybe I’ll try skipping ahead to see what craziness is happening now…
I get the worry gene from my mom, too. It means she gets me ? I’m sure you’ll travel sometime!
Yay for the least stressful quarter of college. That is AWESOME!
Disney Emoji Blitz is totally the only game app on my phone. I don’t play it that much but when they have challenges where you have to do something to win a particular emoji? That’s when you’ll find me playing all the time!
Disney Blitz has simply replaced my Candy Crush addiction, because Disney wins everything. 😉
