Hey hey! Happy Thinking Out Loud Thursday. How’s your week going? Mine has been lovely and relaxing because I’m finally on break. Between finishing up work for yoga teacher training, baking, and blog stuff, I have plenty to keep me busy, though – never a dull moment around here. So, let’s join Amanda and catch up on what’s happening in my life and mind.
1.) We left off on Monday with me knowing I have a stress fracture in my ankle. I was just waiting for the doctor to confirm. Well, after a ridiculous amount of phone tag (being on a plane made me rather inaccessible Monday afternoon), I learned that I do not, in fact, have a stress fracture. I do have the very beginnings of a stress fracture, or a stress reaction. Basically, I’m still mostly in the boot, and not walking too much or running at all, but allowed to use bikes and ellipticals and lift and do yoga. Not the worst thing.
2.) I know I’ve said this before, but I really do remind myself how old I am every time I go to the airport. Beforehand, I say to myself, “Okay, you’re twenty. If anyone asks, you’re twenty.” Because I am. And every time, I screw it up when they ask. On Monday, the TSA agent asked and I paused for a good 10 seconds. “Uh. I know this. Uhhhh. Twenty. Yeah, that’s right.” She then smiled and said, “Oh, alright. You know, you look much younger.”
I KNOW. That’s why I had to answer your question, and subsequently look stupid for forgetting the answer. Blah.
3.) Having a boot on your leg is a lot like being with a dog or a baby: it makes everyone talk to you. From a businessman passing me in the airport and saying, “That doesn’t look like fun,” (it’s really not) to a guy in the grocery store saying, “You’re supposed to hurt him when you kick him, not yourself,” (uhhh…), people are especially chatty when you’re injured. But that’s not to say I don’t like talking to random people, because I actually don’t hate it.
4.) I needed to go to the grocery store on Tuesday so I could start baking my million Christmas cookies. Tuesday yielded the worst weather conditions I’ve ever driven in. Someone decided to do an illegal U-turn in front of me on an icy road where I could not brake effectively. I just barely missed their car. ‘Twas fun. I’d be totally okay if it didn’t snow like that ever again because I don’t need that much scary stuff in my life.
5.) Since my dad was nice enough to get me Chipotle when I was being indecisive about dinner on Monday, I told him I’d make bacon-wrapped scallops the next night.
{Prettier in real life.}
No idea where that came from, since I’d never done that before and have only made scallops once, but they turned out awesome.
6.) Over the last couple days, I’ve realized that even though I overpack for everything, I managed to not come close to overpacking for winter break. And I kind of underpacked. For context: my suitcase was nearly 10 pounds heavier for 3.5 days at Thanksgiving than for the 3.5 weeks of this break. Whaaaat the heck.
7.) I made 4 kinds of cookies yesterday!
From top left, clockwise:
- Sea Salt Nutella Thumbprint Cookies
- Peppermint White Chocolate Cookies
- Peppermint Mocha Cookies (minus the mocha, later dipped in white chocolate)
- Soft-Baked Monster Cookies
8.) I knew I needed eggs for baking. I wrote down that we had 2 cartons of eggs. I still bought two cartons of eggs. I’m thinking there are a lot of eggs in my future.
9.) I’m going to my first yoga class in over a week today and I am so excited.
10.) And now I want to leave you with some of my favorite recipes + reads from the week.

Ugh, people love to ask about boots and crutches. After a while, I just started saying “long story.” I hear that when you are pregnant, people just start grabbing your baby bump, which I would imagine is rather uncomfortable.

Bacon wrapped scallops sound amazing, I bet your Dad was one happy man. Also you’ve just reminded me that I need to get lots of holiday baking done, I haven’t even started yet 🙁

I TOTALLY want to go through the Christmas cookie recipes that the BGB Community gals are doing, and try some of them, because I would love to expand the family cookie repertoire this year. 🙂
And I love how you have such a good attitude about all the people asking you about your boot; cause I love talking to new people too! 🙂

Holy guacamole, that looks like cookie heaven! <3
And I totally feel you on the age thing. People ALWAYS think I'm younger than I am and I ALWAYS forget how old I actually am, hahaha!
