Hi there! Happy Thinking Out Loud Thursday! How’s the week treating you? Mine has been pretty good. But how can it not be when you have leftover muffins and stuffing to sustain you?
Exactly. Anyway, it’s been a couple weeks since we caught up on what’s happening in my life and mind, so I thought I would link up with Amanda and take today to do just that.
1.) One of my study breaks on Monday was going for a walk and chatting with my mom. When I called her, she was at a Metro Park with Pippa. They had already been there for an hour, Pippa was showing no signs of being done, and my mom was a little lost. Well, my walk was just about thirty minutes long, but I lingered on the phone until my mom assured me she’d found her car. Because parents worry about their kids and kids worry about their parents.
2.) Speaking of long walks… what is this weather? It’s been in the 60s and 70s in the first week of November! I’m afraid this means a terrible winter is going to hit, but I’d happily take a mild one. It’s beautiful outside!
3.) I must say, however, that I have a lot of cute fall clothes and wearing sweaters right now is kind of unfathomable. So… a little cooler wouldn’t be bad. I’m obnoxious, I know.
4.) Once upon a time, I refused to wear Salonpas anywhere other than my room. In part, it was because they don’t stick that well once you’re up and moving around. But it was also partially because I was too concerned about the fact that people would ask what they were, if I was okay, blah blah blah. Silly me. These days, if it helps with the pain, I’ll do it. And they certainly take the edge off, so I found some ways that work to wear them – and it’s 100% worth the questions.
5.) In other news, I just figured out how to make my computer cord reach my bed because in the evening, I just don’t feel like sitting at my desk. Comfort wins.
6.) I listened to Josh Groban every night before I went to sleep for years. It was just enough to take my mind off my thoughts. Eventually, my thoughts got louder than Josh. So, I switched to listening to the Harry Potter audiobooks. I’d listened to them enough that I didn’t have to actively engage, but they still distract me enough to sleep. And then… my thoughts overtook Jim Dale’s voice. Now, I stream Gilmore Girls through Netflix and am usually asleep about two minutes after the opening song.

I hope this keeps working for a while, since I have no idea what will come next.
7.) Chicago is my adopted home. Ohio is my regular one. Game 7 of the Cubs vs. Indians World Series was last night and I couldn’t watch it because it stressed me out too much to figure out who to root for. That sounds pathetic, but it’s true. I kept up with the score, but that was the most I could make myself do.
8.) Instead, I watched the CMA Awards. I’m not huge on awards shows, but I like the CMAs, and it was sparkly and not stressful. Also, I would’ve like to be Carrie Underwood
9.) I just finished midterms yesterday. Next Monday, I get to start planning next quarter. I don’t think time will ever stop surprising me with how quickly it moves.
10.) And now I want to leave you with some of my favorite recipes + reads from the week.
- Always up for some BBQ flavor. –> Smoky Paleo Slow Cooker BBQ Chicken
- So fall. Does it get better than this? –> Easy Homemade Applesauce
- Chocolate + chai = perfection. –> Chai Hot Chocolate
- (Shameless plug!) We’re all seeking balance. –> Chatting Work Life Balance with Bloggers: Part 1
- Your mental wellbeing is important. –> 3 Ways to Boost Emotional Metabolism
Your turn:
Sports or awards shows? Neither? Both?
What’s on your mind?
Mom says
Thank you for keeping me company on my ridiculously long walk! I am looking forward to watching the CMAs today, but I would typically choose sports over award shows.
Love you!

Same!
HUGS HUGS HUGS.
I think we were all stressed out by the game last night, Even the people that weren’t fans were stressed! Jim Dale is indeed a magician, in so many ways–falling asleep to him makes total sense. I want to be Carrie Underwood’s body. She is kind of perfection.
She so totally is.
I’m soaking up every warm day we get! I’m terrified for the cold! Haha
It’s beautiful out, that’s for sure!
I am kinda upset that the weather hasn’t been that cold either because I love sweaters too lol but I’m sure it will get much colder! And I don’t watch sports at all so award shows FTW!
Nothing like a nice cozy sweater ❤️
Hmmm… We haven’t had TV for a long time, so when I do watch it at hotels, I usually watch cooking shows. Can you believe that I’ve never watched an awards show? 😀 I love watching sports in person. I love how you talk to your mom and you care about your sweet mom and dad so much! <3
Cooking shows are so fun! I love them!
Sports over award shows, definitely. But, honestly, I can’t stay up long enough to watch either if they start late so I usually skip it all. The only way I could ever do Monday Night Football was when we lived in California and they aired it earlier. haha
And, thanks for sharing that BBQ chicken recipe. I totally missed that one yesterday and now it’s going to be dinner tomorrow! YUM!
Haha I’m usually out before they’re over, too. I get a little bit of a reprieve being on central time instead of eastern, but it’s still hard to stay up that late. Did you like the chicken?
Neither sports or award shows! I barely have time to watch regular network tv!
Haha I understand that 🙂
I’d be happy to send you some of our cooler weather! It’s been hovering around freezing here for the past couple of weeks, and we’ve even had a few bouts of snow. The next few days are supposed to be nice, though ,and I think we’re gonna hit the 60’s next week! Also, the only sport I can watch is hockey. And the Olympics. But I blame that mostly on being Canadian and us not really being into baseball, basketball, or football .
Wow! That might be a little much for me, especially knowing that we’ll probably get a long, snowy winter later. I do love hockey! My team miraculously scored 10 goals the other night?! So pumped.
The school year is just flying by, right? Such a crazy quick semester. Congrats on surviving midterms!
It all goes so quickly! Thanks, Casey!
I don’t like sports or award shows.. but then I don’t really love tv in general… unless it’s a series we’re binge watching!
Hooray for surviving midterms! This year has seriously flown by!
Binge watching is my favorite way to watch TV. I love when a series wraps me up so much I can’t get enough!
