Hey hey! Happy Thinking Out Loud Thursday! It’s a little later than usual as I write this, but right before bed is the perfect time to rid my head of all the random thoughts that might prevent me from sleeping because they are oh, so important. Yes, that. So, let’s think out loud.
1.) I just realized that over the next week and a half, I’m writing a midterm essay that is literally about what a self is. I get to utilize my good friends Freud, Fanon, and de Beauvoir, but the prospect is a tad daunting nonetheless.
2.) Lots of lovely people told me that this salad I posted on Instagram yesterday looked so good. And honestly, it was fine, but good… not really.
See, usually the avocado is the highlight of a salad like that. This particular avocado was kinda meh. It’s not that it wasn’t ripe, because it was. It just tasted a little bitter and not as sweet and delicious as normal. Still, the rest of the salad was really good. I was just looking forward to the avocado. What’s the point of this? No idea. I guess appearances aren’t everything?
3.) Yesterday, I took the least-bad econ exam I’ve had since I started the major sequence. Granted, that’s only seven exams at this point, but it feels like a lot more. It almost makes up for the fact that I’m expecting a really tough econometrics midterm next week. Hopefully a weekend of studying will make that one go a little more smoothly, too.
4.) I’ve gotten much better about throwing things away over the past few years. I no longer keep every single card people give me, and I don’t accumulate random papers and freebies from events around campus anymore. However, my roommate was going through some of her clothes and I was trying to convince her to throw away the shirts with oil stains and holes… and then I realized my sock had a massive hole in it. I have way too many socks, and many of them have holes. I promise I’ll get rid of those ones. I just really like socks.

5.) It’s gone from being wonderfully warm last week to chilly and rainy. I would sort of like to complain, because the weather is teasing me and that’s not nice. However, it’s a lot easier to focus on being a responsible human when it’s not the most beautiful day ever. Also, as Erin said, you get to keep using jacket pockets if it’s cool outside. It’s very convenient.
6.) When I was at Trader Joe’s this weekend, I might have bought 4 pounds of sweet potatoes. Okay, I did. But they go with so many things and they last a while and I eat them about twice a day and I don’t have a problem. I don’t.
And on that note of denial, I’m going to wrap things up for today. Have a wonderful Thursday!
What are your favorite salad toppings?
Do you exhibit hoarding tendencies?
Anything else I should know?

At least you horde useful things. I have a sh*t ton of little hotel bathroom bottles of things that I don’t even need. Ok fine, I have a lot of things that I don’t need!

I definitely have stuff I don’t need. And hey, at least you’ll never need to buy a travel sized shampoo ?
I have sooooooooo many socks….but always end up wearing the same ones 😛 Actually I have certain ones for sleeping, wearing with shoes/working out, and ones for around the house!
Whoa. I have socks for boots vs. tennis shoes, gym socks, and socks for around the house. Freaky 😛
When my food is ugly that’s when it tastes the best haha and vice versa lol!
SO TRUE. Whenever people say, “OMG that’s so pretty – it must be amazing,” it’s just okay. And then when they’re like, “What are you eating? That looks gross!” it’s delicious. Oh, well. At least we know the truth 🙂
Bahha I throw away all of my husbands hole-y socks without him knowing and just replace them. He will NEVER get rid of them, I swear.
Hahaha that’s smart. 😀

So, after I struggled with eating disorder tendencies and REALLY idolizing food, I did start hoarding food, putting it in my pockets and such, but I’m thankful that I don’t do it as much now. I know that I did because of ‘anxiety’ over not getting to eat, but it’s so amazing to be able to say that I’m not worried about that now, thanks be to God! Also, that salad you made yesterday looked Bee-yoo-ti-ful!
Aw, Emily. Thanks for sharing. I’m so glad you’re past that point in your life ❤️
I keep going back and forth on whether I should buy that bag of sweet potatoes at TJs. I always think NO WAY THAT’S TOO MANY but then buy like the same amount in individual ones haha. Thanks for the shout out today!
Too many sweet potatoes? Nahhh. 😉 Of course! I love your blog!
I always bring a jacket with me, but I love carrying a purse or a bag (cause you never know what you might need) and I have some great ones that compliment any outfit. I can look serious, playful or athletic just based on my bag. Hmm…I hoard running clothes. I am so tempted by everything hahaha Have a great weekend Ellen 🙂
I love the look of purses and honestly have a ton. It’s just… I get lazy and don’t always want to carry them. 😛
Potatoes are gold. Not really, but still. I don`t like them in the past (thanks that damn diet lifestyle) but now I am huge potato lawyer!
So funny how our tastes change 🙂
Haha I bought 3 pounds of baby carrots this weekend at the store! I bought two pounds the weekend before and ran out by Thursday, so 3 pounds it is 🙂
Good luck on your upcoming econ exam!
That sounds like a perfectly appropriate amount of carrots to me! 😀 Thanks, Liv!
I’ve been having pretty bad luck with avocados lately as well. The last one I cut open legit tasted like grass, so I’m thinking I’ll give them a break for a little while. And I’m definitely not a hoarder. I used to be when I was younger, but when I got my own place? I throw everything away because I don’t want it to be cluttered or to have too many things when I move 😛
I think having my own space has made me much more conscious of how much stuff I have, too. I’m sooo not a fan of clutter.
At least the things you got were useful yes? HA. Food is always useful.
We are supposed to get pouring rain this weekend which I’m absolutely not looking forward too.
Very true. Food is always useful 😀

Yup I’m guilty of sock and recipe book hoarding! I hate it when avocados are meh…or even worse when they go off before you even get to eat them!
Omg my equivalent of recipe-book hoarding might be open tabs with delicious recipes ? And yes! Avocados are so finicky, but when they’re right, they’re good enough that we’re willing to chance it. 😉
Meh avocadoes are seriously the worst – especially when they look so perfect when you cut into them and you’re silently golf clapping yourself for choosing the perfect avocado and then NOPE. No bueno.
I really like socks too… you really can never have enough socks – especially when the washing machine always seems to eat them!
Hahaha “silently golf clapping yourself”. So relatable. ?
I loves socks!! I have too many pairs to count 😉 My favorite salad topping is croutons and cheese, YUM.
Blessings,

Croutons + cheese = classic. Good choices 😉
Oh my God the jacket pocket thing is so true!! I am also getting more and more into the whole “no stuff” thing. I guess 10+ moves in 7 years across three countries and two continents (and back and forth a few times) will do that to you. 😀 But I still have trouble throwing clothes with tiny holes out. I always think “it’s fiiine” or “I’ll wear it around the house” but I should probably just get rid of them. PS I also love socks. 😀
Haha I used to carry a huge purse, and now I usually just have a wallet and a phone and it’s great. 🙂
I love what you said about the avocado making the salad — that’s totally what I think every single day when making my lunch 🙂 Avocados are super important!
LOL yes. Gotta get those fats ❤️
