I’ve written about it before, but I don’t get tired of being in the kitchen. It just doesn’t happen – it’s my happy place. Sure, my back does start to hurt from the stationary(ish) nature of cooking and, so I make sure to take breaks. Overall, though, I really can’t get enough kitchen time.
So I got home on Saturday morning and took the puppy for a walk…
{Look at her big brown eyes! I melt.}
… and took a nap and went grocery shopping, my time in the kitchen commenced. I made Skillet Chicken with Creamy Cilantro Lime Sauce for dinner.
This was so very easy. Cilantro + lime is one of my favorite flavor combinations and there was a little kick of spice from the red pepper flakes, which I adored. The cream sauce was lovely on the asparagus, too!
After dinner, my mom and I got right back in the kitchen (and listened to Harry Potter in the background). We whipped up three types of cookie dough and let them chill overnight, so I could just bake the cookies on Sunday.
Cookie-baking takes a while (all the batches!), so that proved to be an excellent decision. I spent Sunday morning and early afternoon rolling, rolling, rolling cookie dough. It was awesome.
{Triple Chocolate Brownie Batter Cookies}
These are a chocolate-lover’s dream. They’re crazy-soft, super-chocolatey, and they have that crackly top characteristic of brownies.
{Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies}
These are my favorite chocolate chip cookie I’ve made. Are they my perfect chocolate chip cookie? Close. I’m working on mastering those.
{Classic Peanut Butter Cookies}
These are exactly what they say they are. They taste like the perfect version of the first normal peanut butter cookie you ever had. They’re no-frills and they’re pretty freaking delicious.
After all that kitchen time, I was satisfied and ready for a stretch, so we headed to the Container Store. There was a big sale this weekend, so we picked up some kitchen and dorm supplies. And then went to Trader Joe’s, because we were nearby and how could we not?
The night concluded with a family Chipotle dinner and a little more Harry Potter watching. And cookies. Of course.
Here’s to a great week! Have a marvelous Monday – and a cookie or two – for me!
What’s your happy place?
Do you have a favorite hobby?
How was your weekend?

It totally shows in your enthusiasm for your recipes! <3
I had a good, if busy, weekend. Saturday I babysat some pretty great kiddos and Sunday we had a visit from my brother. 🙂
I can definitely relate to loving baking or getting creative in the kitchen! And I also enjoy listening to books (or music) while I’m working. My happy place is doing one of my favorite things, reading a good book, writing a blog post that’s been on my mind, or working on developing a recipe idea I have…though if I had to pick a favorite, I think I’d go with reading, because it is the one I usually get to do the least, so it makes it more desirable. 😉
Happy Monday yourself!!! And! Please eat some of those delicious-looking cookies for me (the brownie batter ones look especially delectable…)! 🙂
I do love reading. I don’t do it enough, but it’s so enriching! 🙂
Those are probably my faves 😉 Chocolate overload <3
Please (don’t) STOP with these amazing cookie pictures <3 you are an amazing baker! Good thing we have cookies baking in the oven now because I wouldn't know what I would do if we didn't… My happy place would definitely have to be the bookstore or library since books are my best friends!
I love bookstores! Even when I have a whole pile of books to read, I always manage to walk out with even more. There are worse addictions to have 🙂
All of these cookies… you’ve awakened my sweet tooth!
I’m not sure my sweet tooth ever sleeps 🙂
Hmm.. those treats look delicious! You definitely make a fine baker, Ellen.
And your dog is too cute! <3
Thank you, Alison! 😀
