Guys, this was a weekend I absolutely loved. I didn’t take a million pictures, so I’ll show you what I can, but I just feel like sharing anyway, because it was seriously wonderful.
Friday morning, I was determined to use up the rest of the overripe bananas I bought for the banana bread I made last week. I made a strawberry-chocolate banana bread that was kind of improvised (and tasty!) and these banana-zucchini muffins. The front of the door to the oven nearly fell off in the process, but it’s back on now and I have yummy banana baked goods. Life is good.
My mom and I ran some errands afterward and grabbed a late lunch at Jason’s Deli. One of my mom’s friend told her we had to go even though the food was nothing super special because unlimited ice cream is part of every meal there. That alone sold us.
But, uh, the food was actually delicious. And there’s an endless salad bar.

Look at the avocado! And there were delicious shrimp buried under all that. It was amazing and I could probably eat it every day.
Of course, soft-serve was necessary, too.

Honestly, the second cone was prettier, but I was impatient. I would now like to eat here every single day. In general, I do prefer “hard” ice cream to soft-serve, but ice cream is ice cream and it is amazing.
Friday also included egg sandwiches and grocery shopping. ?
After a bit of work on Saturday morning, my mom and I met my aunt and cousins for a day of shopping on which I bought too much stuff that I will definitely end up returning. The sales might have gotten the best of me. It was so fun, though. No regrets 🙂
What else? I made this delicious funfetti cake to surprise my friend for his birthday. Upon putting it in my car to take to him, the frosting started to melt.
You can tell this because the writing used to be significantly more legible. Oops. I panicked quickly ran back in the house and asked my mom to chill it to harden up the frosting. She is lovely and offered to bring it over a little later so my friends and I could surprise him with it when we met up. It ended up working out quite well, and the cake got rave reviews. Yay! We enjoyed cake, gave him presents, and played Rotten Apples. Fun times ?
Later, I watched Gone Girl while eating a lot of candy (all the sugar!) and some chips. It was wonderful. Also, I highly recommend Gone Girl. I have not read the book, but I truly thought it was gripping. I do not stay engaged by films very often, but I was extremely interested in this one the whole time. Please watch it so we can discuss the beginning, middle, and end at length.
I ended the weekend with a long walk with my dad, more snacks, and Food Network Star. I’m a happy girl.
Hard-pack or soft-serve ice cream?
Have you seen Gone Girl? Thoughts?
How was your weekend?

I prefer regular ice cream over soft serve, too, but I agree- ice cream is ice cream! And I LOVE that Jason’s Deli has unlimited.

I feel like more restaurants should add free endless ice cream to their menus 😉
Softserve yes!!! So much better then hard! When I was little and would eat hard ice cream at home, I would always mix it a bunch to make it soft (am I the only one?)
And Funfetti celebration = best friend status for sure 😉
Sometimes I do that, or I just let the ice cream a little melty before digging in 🙂
When it comes to ice-cream I do not judge (unless it is mint flavored), so it all sounds good to me! The way you balance the cone makes me nervous for some reason, I can’t believe it actually stood! Glad you had a fun-filled weekend, and I am looking forward to maybe watching gone girl myself.
Haha I wasn’t sure it would stand, but the bottom was pretty flat so I thought I’d give it a try 🙂
So glad that you had such a wonderful weekend! Those are the best! I loved reading about your weekend, because it truly sounded like it was amazing! And unlimited ice cream? Yes, please, I want to be there like yesterday! Except my stomach would probably beg to differ, but oh well, it can deal. 😀 That salad looked good, too, although I’m partial to both avocado and shrimp, although I’ve never had them together!
Probably soft serve, although ice cream is ice cream, you know? Haven’t seen Gone Girl, and I don’t remember for sure of hearing of it? But maybe I have, I’m not sure. My weekend involved trying to get myself back on track sleep-wise after babysitting the kids of a friend of ours while she had a baby! A very unique experience, but it left me mentally foggy and very sleepy! I really enjoyed yesterday which involved a workout that made me feel awesome, a little bit of catching up on blog stuff and ending with a movie. It was pretty awesome!
I know Gone Girl is based on a book that was pretty popular, but I haven’t read it. Super good, though! Sounds like your weekend was just what you needed after such a hectic time 😀
Looks like you had a fun and eventful weekend Ellen. That salad looks pretty freakin’ awesome!! I’ve never visited and established that features unlimited ice cream with every meal, that’s amazballs!!! Your cake looks pretty cute, icing is always the hardest part for me, yours turned out way better than any of my attempts. 🙂 I love Gone Girl. I haven’t read the book, but I want to. The movie is gripping and twisty, and mysterious, and it gave me anxiety in a great way. Great Great Movie! 🙂
I think more restaurants should include free ice cream 🙂 Yeah, decorating cakes is not my strong suit, either. But as long as it tastes good, I’m okay with that! And yes, I’d love to read the book. I’m sure it’s different than the movie, but still probably excellent, since usually I like the books better!
This sounds fantastic! But, then again, any weekend having to do with soft serve sounds fantastic… 🙂
Ice cream makes everything better. I’m pretty sure it’s science or something 😉
Never heard of Gone Girl…we watched a movie this weekend, too! Movie-watching is definitely one of my favorite ways to relax. 🙂 I had a very restful weekend after a super-crazy-but-good end to the week, so it was nice.
I think I’d prefer hard ice cream, if only for the reason that it melts slower, though soft-serve (and BLIZZARDS!!!) is still a favorite of mine. I’m always panicked about my ice cream melting and end up wolfing it too fast so it won’t go all soupy, and then I regret that it’s gone. 😛 Plus, unless it’s a Blizzard, soft-serve is less likely to have add-ins, which is *one* of my favorite parts of ice cream. 😉
I’m so weird in that sometimes I let my ice cream get a little melty. I do love add-ins, which usually puts hard ice cream ahead. Unless there’s a toppings bar. And then I go crazy 🙂
It actually kind of depends. I love soft-serve cones, but for an icecream sundae, I would go with hard pack icecream all the way!
Different ice cream for different occasions 🙂 I’m all for that!
My family in St. Louis said Jason’s Deli was another amazing place to eat (besides Chick-Fil-A)! That salad looks incredible.
I usually prefer hard ice cream over soft serve, but sometimes I CRAVE soft serve and I must have only that, haha.
Same! I have soft-serve much less often, but when I do, it’s usually a major craving I need to satisfy.
