The happiest of Fridays to you! What’s on tap for your weekend? I have studying, fun with some friends tonight, yoga, and more studying on the agenda. Finals are next week! We’re in the home stretch. Life is good. Before we get to weekending, let’s take a look at some of the best things from the week. Ready? Let’s do it.
A rare repeat teacher
Let me take a deep breath here. Okay. I’m ready. Guys, I got one class scheduled for next quarter. ONE. I need at least three to be a full-time student, and four to graduate when I intend to… and I’m graduating when I intend to. Anyway, I’m planning to talk to the registrar about the ridiculousness today, which will probably involve me begging for classes. Who knows. The ability to add classes on my own (assuming they’re not full, which most of the ones I could use are) starts next Monday, but I went ahead and emailed a bunch of teachers whose classes I want to take next quarter to at least get on their waitlists and see if they’re considering expanding their classes.
One of the lucky recipients of my semi-frantic emails was my favorite teacher I’ve had since I’ve been here. He was also the first to email me back and say that it was good to hear from me (I’m working on being better about keeping in touch) he was sure he could work something out and let me take his class.
I have friends at other schools who often get to take classes with the same teacher in their department of interest, but that hasn’t been my experience. Even my humanities and social sciences sequences, which were just the same class extended across a few quarters, were taught by different teachers each quarter. So now, even if it’s not officially official, I have 50% of the classes I need for next quarter, and I also get to take another class with a teacher I like.
New brown boots
On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, I bought these boots in Taupe and I’m so glad I did. See, I’ve been pretty cheap in the past with my brown boots. I have nice black ones that have held up for a few years and will continue to do so, but I tend to buy $40 brown boots that look nice for two months and then get chips in whatever faux leather covers them. No bueno. Sure, these weren’t super cheap, but they were 40% off and they’re comfortable and warm and look nice. What more can ya ask for?
Beating Michigan
As a Buckeye fan, a win against Michigan is always appreciated, and this weekend’s game was so intense that it felt even better.
Better Than Before
I love goals, habits, progress, and the whole art of making life a little better. This manifests as me being a sucker for personality tests ranging from Myers-Briggs to “Which Gilmore Guy Is Right for You?” and self-help books. Better Than Before is the first of Gretchen Rubin’s I’ve read and it won’t be the last. It’s about habits and how they work for different personalities. I flew through listening to it in about 3 days last week and I want to create routines and habits left and right.
Benefit They’re Real! Mascara
I love trying new makeup and other beauty products, but I’m not one to pay $24 for freaking mascara, no matter how much I love mascara. I’ve heard rave reviews about They’re Real! and it’s advertised as the top-selling mascara in the world. While I find that hard to believe given its price point, I’ve always kind of wanted to try it. Lucky me: the full-size mascara was on sale in a little gift package with samples of highlighter and bronzer at Macy’s… all for cheaper than the mascara on its own.
I wanted to hate it and think it was nothing special when compared to my usual sample size Clinique mascara or drugstore L’Oreal (which I do really like), but it is AWESOME. And now I want to hoard a million of those little gift packages.
It's been a good week for sports, makeup, and shoes. #SweatPink #FitFluential Share on XYour turn:

Ugh! I was hoping that you would not like that mascara so that I would not “need” to try it. Five dollar Cover Girl mascara has been my go to since high school. I am loving the Philosohy lotion we bought that night!
Good luck with profs and the registrar today! Love you!

Are you going to wear your boots to dinner tonight?? PS, How many baskets of sweet potato fries are we ordering?
EllenSlater says
Indeed! And, uh, I don’t think I’m the most rational decision maker when it comes to sweet potato fries ?
I’m reading a book right now on my kindle about Iraqi Christians; it’s really intense.
That game looks SO SO full. Wow! I’ve never been to a stadium game.
That sounds fascinating!
Honestly, being at that game would overwhelm me. I find hockey crowds to be a little more manageable.
I love getting little samples of beauty products without having to splurge on the full size. My favorite is probably my tarte concealer to cover my dark circles. And gosh I want a closet full of boots! I love them all and they’re totally worth spending extra money on when they’ll last you for years!
Oooh I might have to check out that concealer.
YES to all the boots. I want them all ?
OMG those boots are too cute. I’m a huge fan of that mascara. It makes my lashes look so full and thick. Great post, thanks for sharing!
Thanks, HJ. Have a lovely weekend!
I seriously LOVE that mascara – I’m with you, I refuse to spend the money, but I got a sample of it once and OMG so good. Also UGH to choosing classes. My senior year, last semester there was an error in my financial aid which caused me to unregister from ALL of my classes 3 days before. I had to do the whole ‘beg professors’ thing in order to graduate one time – especially since I had a full-time job lined up and was getting married exactly 1 month after graduation, ha!
That sounds stressful! Yay for professors who let you register for their classes, though!
Yay for getting started on planning for next term AND for finals being next week! You’re so close! 🙂 This weekend (and for the next two weeks) I’m in Colorado visiting Eric’s family, and I’m loving the scenery. You can’t beat the Rocky Mountains for a view!
I’ve never been to the Rockies, but it’s on my (very long) list of places I want to travel! Enjoy your break, my friend!
I’m not reading much right now, but I can’t wait to devour my local library when I’m home for Christmas break! My fave makeup (and only daily makeup) is a swipe of Cleure lipstick. And I’m loving that tomorrow’s Saturday!
Enjoy all that reading! I mostly read during school breaks, too… unless it’s something I’m reading for school, of course 🙂
They’re real is like the only thing that I will pay an outrageous amount for. It is SO worth it. I love it so much too! I hope things get worked out with your classes! I remember how stressful all that was. Keep us updated, love <3 xo
I fixed my classes! And yeah, I think I’m going to have to start paying for They’re Real. LOVE IT SO MUCH.
SOO worth it!!!
It is such a pain in the butt when you can’t register for all of the classes that you want to! Before I transferred to Marquette I always had that problem and was begging teachers to let me in as well. I hope it all works out for you!
Haha everyone I talk to says this is not a problem anywhere but UChicago ? Seems like they should be able to work it out… but I guess it’s part of the experience…?
I need to try that mascara! I had one mascara that I was liking for a while but after using it like twice it’s gone all clumpy and bleh and no amount of hot water melting business has fixed it!
I’m currently reading One True Loves!
It’s expensive, but I love it more than I thought I could love mascara!
That’s one of my very favorite mascaras!
Loving the brown boots as well. I just bought a pair of booties for about the same price and I’m so obsessed!
Hope you’re having a great week!
Nothing like good mascara and a pair of new shoes 🙂
