TGIF! Are you ready for the weekend? What are your plans? I had a fun weekend last weekend, but I’m spending this afternoon and tomorrow doing all sorts of homework and catch-up. It’s gonna feel productive and great. I hope. Anyway, let’s kick off this lovely weekend by looking back at some of our favorite things from the past week. Sound good? Sweet.
Family time
{Pippa unfortunately did not make the journey.}
You know I have to mention just generally that my parents were in town last weekend. It’d been about a month since they helped me move back into my apartment and it’ll be about a month until I fly home for Thanksgiving, so it was the perfect mid-quarter pick-me-up. Is there anything as restorative as a relaxing weekend full of delicious food, shopping, and people you love?
OSU football
My parents and I watched an intense OSU vs. Wisconsin game last Saturday night and it was great. The early-season games were nothing terribly exciting, but this was a game it really looked like we were going to lose. And then we didn’t. Those kinds of wins are extra fun.
Mity Nice
After my active morning on Saturday, I was freaking hungry. My mom and I planned to head to Water Tower Place for some one-stop shopping, and we decided we’d just eat there to minimize the time we were out and about (I had homework). Rather than one of their cafeteria areas, we settled on eating at Mity Nice. We’ve both been there before and it was good, but this trip was better.
First, they bring out ultra cheesy popovers as an appetizer. Winning my heart with warm bread and cheese already. We considered ordering approximately everything on the menu at various points, but when I realized it had been ages since I’d had French onion soup, it sounded amazing. Excuse the awful lighting.
We opted for our own cups of soup and planned to split a pesto flatbread. The flatbread was kind of a failure – super oily and unappealing – and went uneaten (the manager was really nice and offered to remake it), but the soup was everything I wanted.
Basically, my meal was a bunch of bread and cheese. Obviously, I needed to follow it up with dessert.
Enter the made-to-order skillet cookie. We weren’t sure about getting it when the waitress told us they had just made it bigger. Like, do two people need to eat one skillet cookie?
It was topped with dark chocolate sauce and amazing vanilla ice cream and was absolutely perfect. We finished it off with no trouble and savored every bite. I never want to forget that cookie.
Wi-fi
I have wi-fi! A nice tech guy came and replaced our router unit on Wednesday. It works for me and it works better for my roommates. It’s wonderful. I’m not eating up tons of data anymore and I don’t have to charge my phone whenever I’m in my room. Also, I can watch Netflix again! (When I have time…)
Blog friends
The lovely Emily sent me some Meenut Butter (which is delicious) and it was just a little reminder that even though my blogging and interaction has slowed way down of late, this blog has still helped me build some great relationships and “meet” really incredible people. Thanks, Emily! (And your package is going out today ?)
And that’s all from me for the week. See you back on Monday for the winter squash recipe link-up for the Autumn Produce Challenge!

I think real tortilla soup is my favorite, but I love a good french onion… minus the bread and cheese 😀

Mmmm I haven’t had a good tortilla soup in too long.
Ugh isn’t family time just the best?! I wish I could live closer to my fam.
Your photos are making me extra hungry this morning!
I hope I’m able to continue living close (and hopefully closer) to my family when I graduate!
That skillet cookie….I want to buy a mini cast iron just to make one…soon.
I found out that my mom bought mini cast irons for something else and now I can’t wait to make massive cookies over winter break ?
I love broccoli and potato soup, but haven’t had French onion in awhile. Bread and cheese really curves almost all cravings. And OMG that cookie is huge! But looks amazing, I could probably eat the whole thing 😉
Haha it was pretty big, but we managed to eat it all just fine ?
It was pretty big, but we managed just fine ?
Whee! You got the nut butter; you are going to love it!
And that’s awesome that you got to spend time with your parents and eat such yummy food and watch a game and do all the family things together. 🙂 Absence often makes my heart grow fonder of my family, and when we are together I treasure the time even more.
I agree. I appreciate the time even more when there’s less of it to go around.
Oh my gosh, that cookie looks INSANE. Yum!!! I’m actually not a huge soup person, but now that you bring it up, I used to make a homemade taco soup all the time last Fall that I loved. Might have to pull that baby out again 🙂
Oooh that sounds yummy!
That cookie skillet, though. I cannot even. I’m glad that you had a great time with your family!
Thanks, Morgan!
PS…I just realized that my Feedly hasn’t been getting your blog. For some reason I had it in my head you were taking a blog break and I missed you and then I realized you’ve been posting ? looks like I have some catching up to do!
Oh man, that skillet cookie looks incredible. Bread + cheese + gooey chocolatey goodness? The PERFECT meal! My favorite kind of soup… lately we’ve been loving curried lentil soup, and last week I decided to add bacon to it–what a game-changer. Yum!
That soup sounds delicious! Do you have the recipe?
So I’ve never had french onion soup before but that looks AMAZING – and the skillet cookie to finish? YUM!
My favourite kind of soup is probably pumpkin soup – or my creamy chicken and rice soup!
I’ve never had pumpkin soup but it sounds like something I’d love. I need to try it!
That skillet cookie looks so yummy!!! I’m so #JEALOUS!!!
It was amazing!
