Happy Friday to you! How’s your week been? Like I said yesterday, mine moved pretty quickly, but I find that tends to happen when I only have four days of class each week. My weekend looks like homework, blog work, domesticity (cooking + cleaning), and yoga, which sounds kind of perfect. Oh, and avoiding illness. My three roommates are all fighting something. Wish me luck!
Also, go check out my guest post on Hungry by Nature today: Sausage & Kale Stuffed Acorn Squash. It’s amazing, I promise.
Now let’s start the weekend off right by looking some of the best parts of the week, shall we?
Dinner + Yoga with Susie
Susie invited me to come to a Hot Power Fusion class with her on Monday, assuming both of our wonky injuries were feeling alright. Yoga and a chance to catch up? Perfect. I’d never taken HPF before, and it was awesome. I left a sweaty, chilled-out mess. And then we refueled at LYFE Kitchen (I had mahi tacos!) while talking life, college, and running. It was excellent and a perfect way to start the week.
Superseedz
I adore pumpkin seeds almost as much as I love pistachios. Generally, I go for roasted and salted ones from Trader Joe’s. They’re delicious and pretty economical. However, Superseedz makes some freaking delicious flavors, and when I saw these at Whole Foods, I couldn’t resist. The Cinnamon & Sugar is awesome and, surprisingly, not too sweet. Right now, I’m especially in love with the Coco Joe. I don’t taste the coffee at all – just a lot of chocolate. I think I polished off the bag in two sittings.
1 mile
I know running was a favorite last week, too, but I successfully ran a consecutive mile yesterday in about 8:50 and it didn’t hurt at all. I felt like I could keep going – and keep going faster – but I decided to cut it off there and not push too hard because I’m trying to be smart. Between that and run-walk intervals, I covered 3 miles in 35 minutes, which is probably the fastest I’ve been in the 6 weeks since I stopped running.
Trader Joe’s Harvest Salsa
I mentioned non-traditional taco salad yesterday, and this was on it. I’m a little bit of a salsa snob ordinarily, so I usually only buy fresh blended salsa or pico de gallo. But… um… I make exceptions for fall stuff. (#basic? If nothing else, the video is funny.)
AND IT IS SO GOOD. With guacamole and roasted turkey (told you… nontraditional taco salad), it was phenomenal, and I kind of want to buy a bunch and hoard it so I can eat it year-round. That is all.
Reminders via Grey’s Anatomy
It’s Mental Illness Awareness Week. And while Meredith is right and you don’t have to be happy all the time, it’s important to know when to ask for help. So, do that if you need it – or even if you simply want it.

You’re strong and awesome and not a quitter. Now, go have a fabulous weekend and I’ll see you back on Monday with a delicious parsnip recipe for the Autumn Produce Challenge!

That salsa and those pumpkin seeds look like the perfect study snacks! Lately I’ve been loving pumpkin spice tea that I bought at the grocery last week… because pumpkin spice. And caffeine. 😛
I have more than enough tea for any normal person, but I don’t have pumpkin spice. I think I need pumpkin spice tea.
I’m loving doing weights workouts with my mom right now. That salsa looks really unique and yummy; I would love to try something like that.
And I love seeing that you and Susie get to hang out.
Lifting weights always makes me feel capable/empowered! Exactly ho wa workout should make you feel!
I’ve always wanted to try hot yoga, glad to hear you had a good experience. And I’m currently loving doing a lot more strength training. I used to run everyday, but got into lifting more a few years ago. Have a great weekend!
I adore hot yoga! I love how we go through seasons of doing more of one workout, then more of another. Pretty cool to see what feels good to your body at different stages of life 🙂
