Happy Friday! Have you had a good week? I’m quite tired, but I definitely enjoyed this week. Last year, O-Week totally stressed me out because I was so anxious to start classes, but I was a bit more relaxed this week. I’ve even started to fall into a little bit of a routine. That said, I’m hoping my regular routine will include a touch more sleep. Anyway, let’s head into the weekend (my last weekend before classes!) on a positive note and talk about a few of my favorite things from this week.
- The first years
This probably goes without saying, but honestly, they’re great and it’s been fun talking to them and getting to know them. They’re all interested and excited and it’s so nice to see that. Sometimes in the stress of the school year, you notice students get a little bitter and cynical, but no one has reached that point before classes start, so it’s nice to see everybody all happy and such! 🙂
- Time to bake
I spent a good chunk of yesterday baking snickerdoodles and super-chocolatey cookies (typical), and while my apartment kitchen isn’t nearly as nice as my home kitchen, it’s comfortable enough. I now have way too many cookies on my hands, especially since my roommate made some oatmeal cookies Thursday. I’m sure we’ll be able to get rid of those somehow. 😉
- Feeling like I know what I’m talking about
Advising new students on their schedules is more of an ego boost than it probably should be, honestly. However, it’s been fun to try to help them navigate scheduling and answer their questions about college. It makes me feel like I know what I’m doing with my life, and that’s a rare and valued occurrence – especially since I’m still playing with my own schedule for the quarter. 🙂
- Thursday farmers’ market
Last Thursday, my mom clued me into the fact that there is a farmers’ market next to the hotel near campus every Thursday from 9 am to 1 pm. I went yesterday with one of the first years and got cheap and beautiful apples, pears, peppers, and cherry tomatoes. The peppers already found their way into the simplest and most delicious sausage + peppers dinner last night. Yesssss. I hope I can find time to run over there for the next few weeks until farmers’ market season ends.
- Sunsets from the “dining room” table
Excuse the dirty, unopenable window and tell me that sky isn’t gorgeous. ?
Have a fabulous weekend, everyone! Talk to you on Monday!
Sunrise or sunset? I usually see both and I love them both. The sunrise is peaceful and quiet… and the sunset is the start of a new peace and quiet.
What are you loving this week?

Thinking of driving to Chicago for a cookie ? and a sunset ? Glad O-Week has been good for you. Love you. ?❤️

I’d be happy to have you as a visitor! Love you ❤️
I love finding new farmers markets to explore! Yum 🙂 Happy Friday!
It’s so fun! So much fresh food 🙂 Thanks! Have a great weekend!
That sunset is gorgeous! I usually only see sunsets now, but I think I prefer sunrises, but maybe that’s because I almost never see them, haha. It’s also harder to see sunsets from our house than it is to see sunrises, so that also could be contributing. 🙂 But I do like them both.
I also love that rare feeling when you feel like you know what you are doing; it kind of like when you actually know the answer to someone’s question. 😀 It’s awesome!
Basically, whenever the sky explodes with colors, everything is gorgeous!
YES. It’s the best.
Well that’s a view! Sunrise though, for sure!
It is funny how when you are the “older” one, you do have that confidence of knowing everything 😉 Feels good though!
And those were some fab cookie choices to bake 😉
It does seem strange that I feel simultaneously very clueless about my own life and very knowledgeable about younger people’s lives. I guess it only makes sense to feel like you understand what you’ve already experienced!
Thanks, Rebecca! Have a great weekend!
Yummy!! Wish you could mail cookies, lol! Those look scrumptious. And the sunset *does indeed* look stunning!!
Ooh, I can’t decide…sunrises and sunsets are both beautiful, on their own kind of way. If I HAD to choose, I’d probably go with SunTrust, just because it’s usually a bit quieter on the mornings, I’m alone and taking a moment to enjoy the sunrise feels special and kind of…hallowed, I guess? But I love them both. 😉
Loving…experiencing old Disney movies with the fam (did this last weekend, and it looks like maybe we’ll be making it a tradition? Awesomely, hilariously fun!), unusual free time (hello blogging and reading!) and doing one of my favorite Barre DVDs again (we don’t own out and I just got it in from the library last week!).
Have a great first week of classes!!
Old Disney movies sounds like a blast! Thanks, Hannah! Have a lovely weekend 🙂
I hope your schedule settles down soon so you can get into a routine that hopefully involves more sleep 🙂 That’s one of my goals right now, too.
And sunsets versus sunrises…I love both, but I think sunrises feel more special to me since I see them much less often than sunsets. Both are SO beautiful, though. I love the streaks of pink in the blue sky! I always think of a certain type of sunset as a “Trix yogurt” sunset hah!
More sleep is always a good goal to have… and I think one a lot of college students can relate to!
Haha I love that “Trix yogurt” sunset. Perfect!
