Hey there! Happy Friday! How was your week? Mine has honestly kind of flown by and it’s crazy (and awesome) to think that classes start on Monday. Everyone else has been in school for about 5 weeks and I’ve been floating around waiting and waiting and now it’s here. Yay! Ask me if I still feel that way fourth week. For now, it’s exciting. 🙂
Anyway, I have another full day of registration meetings today, a massage tonight, and I’m planning on a pretty low-key weekend while I get ready for the craziness to start. Let’s kick it off by looking back at some of our favorite things from the week, shall we?
iOS 10
After hearing about a whole bunch of issues people were having with the new operating system, I held off on updating my phone until Monday morning. While I definitely have some issues with change and am not crazy about the new lock screen, I do love the stickers in iMessage and the easier access to GIFs. Why call when you can text? And why text when you can just send Disney stickers and GIFs?
Feeling wise
I love coming back for O-Week for several reasons. It’s awesome to get all settled in before the rest of the upperclassmen and have some time to relax on campus before classes start. I also really like getting to know the new class of students. And finally… it’s a total ego boost. I mean, I’ve spent all week assuring eager-but-scared 18 year olds that their schedules will work out, they will be successful, and they have the whole world open to them. I get to suggest classes they should take and tell them about different clubs and promise that they’re really smart enough to be here.
Basically, I get to feel like I have it all together for a week. Again, ask me if that’s how I feel in a month.
Pizza Spaghetti Pie
I mentioned this stuff yesterday, but it deserves a real shoutout. It’s amazing. Julie and Brie have both raved about it in the past, and it has such excellent reviews on PaleOMG that I thought it must be overhyped. But it’s not. It’s wonderful and you should make it yesterday. (I use a whole onion and cook a container of chopped fresh mushrooms with the sausage.) Also, it reheats beautifully. It’s so not pretty, so I’m going to spare you a picture, but make it!
Parsnip fries
I first tried parsnips earlier this summer and now I love them. They’re a little sweet and they have an awesome texture that’s kinda like potatoes. I made garlicky parsnip fries to go with burgers I cooked up this week and they’re delicious. I’ll get you a recipe soon!
Autumn Produce Challenge
Speaking of parsnips and recipes…
I want to tell you all about the Autumn Produce Challenge! It’s a link-up that will be co-hosted between my blog, Blondes Have More Run, and Masala Girl Travels. For the next 7 weeks, we’ll be celebrating one variety of fall produce and recipes featuring it each Monday. Come share your recipes and check out those shared on our blogs and in the link-up.
For more details, see Kayla’s post here. We’ll start this coming Monday with apples! I’m excited to see what you come up with!
And that’s all for me for the week. I’ll see you Monday with some easy apple muffin tops. Have a fabulous weekend!

I’m a texter, but sometimes there just ins’t any substitute for a call. i needed that this week! ANd I agree–positions of power where you actually know hwat you are talking about are much needed!

There are definitely times and people who totally merit calls ?
CALL!!!! Hate texts…hate calls to but…how about just write me a hand written letter or meet me in person 😛
I’m getting the new iphone 7 this weekend….I’m scared….I’ve only ever had an Android….
LOVE letters. That reminds me… I have a few to write!
I love iPhones, but they’re not perfect. Enjoy playing with it though!
I almost always prefer a text! There are a few people I really do love to talk too, but in general a text will usually suffice! 🙂
Same here!
Ooh I can’t wait for the produce challenge; I’m excited to see what you come up with.
I love that you’re able to advise new students. I’m sure they’re really blessed by another student sharing their wisdom.
I keep putting off the update, but I’m kind of thinking it sounds fun. Maybe I’ll do it today? 🙂
I’m excited for it too! And we’d love to have you join if you felt like it ?

Oh boy! I’ll see what I can do to come up with some creative fall produce recipes! This challenge is right up my alley!!
It does sound like you! I’m excited to see what you whip up!
I just tried parsnip fries last week. My hubby and I both approved, they were so good! My favorite fall foods are probably squash, Brussels, and pumpkin =) Excited to check out your recipe link ups and I’ll try to join in on a few!
Those are some of my faves, too! Yay! I’m excited to see what you come up with!
Apples, pears, Brussels sprouts, pumpkin. Do apple donuts count as fall produce?
Of course! There’s fruit in them ?
I prefer texting over calling MOST of the time. Just depends on the person! I never did orientation staff in college, but it always seemed like a great organization to join!
I’m the same way. And yes- it’s a lot of fun!
I just made that pizza pie tonight for my family. We love it!
Glad you enjoyed it, too!
I prefer skype over texting actually cause it is so nice to be able to see the person’s face and their facial expressions. I’m loving that summer fruit is making an appearance on the shelves again yay.
I love Skype/FaceTime, but my wi-fi at school doesn’t always hold up for it. Enjoy your summer fruits!!
I actually prefer calling, however, I love that texting means I can talk to my friends anytime/anywhere – and iMessages mean I can text my friends all over the world without crazy phone bills! Oh how nice that would have been when Jesse and I first started talking… considering the first phone bill came in at SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS!
I do love that I can chat with people anywhere all the time with texting. Haha that’s expensive! The things ya do for love ❤️️
I prefer texting over talking on the phone. It’s less awkward especially when you’re just getting to know somebody 🙂
I agree with that for sure.
