Happy Friday! What’s on your weekend agenda? I’ll be in Cleveland, eating and exploring and concert-ing with my mom. And hopefully getting my computer back, because it’s having some major issues and I’m not convinced that I want to buy a new one. I’m blogging from my mom’s computer now, and also using it to watch Gossip Girl. She’s an angel, but I want my own computer back.
So before we hit the weekend (weren’t we just there?), let’s look back on some of our favorites from the past week. Ready? Okay!
CycleBar
I may have mentioned it in passing, but it deserves at least its own paragraph, if not post. After my little mystery injury, I spent most of my summer lifting weights and taking the cardio pretty easy. For a while, even biking and elliptical-ing didn’t feel so hot. When they started to, though, I was itching to get back into it. Say what you will about cardio being boring, but I love it a lot and missed it.
Enter, eventually, CycleBar. I tried SoulCycle in Chicago a few times and enjoyed it, but didn’t get hooked. When I went to CycleBar, which is almost the same thing, I did get hooked. I love it. It kicks my butt, puts me in a good mood, and kept me in good enough cardio shape that running this past week didn’t feel nearly as hard as running usually does after time off. And… you don’t get as many injuries there as running.
ECCO shoes
I got these during the Nordstrom anniversary sale (I think they were on sale – can’t recall), and I’m obsessed with them. They’re comfy and pretty freaking supportive and super cute. They will be worn lots this fall. That’s all.
OPI Malaga Wine
We all know painted nails make me feel “together”, but I mostly stick to French manicures or obnoxiously pink nails. This is different, darker, and I love it. Of course, since I did it myself, my nails look a little rough around the edges, but WHATEVER. They look good from afar.
This podcast
I’m a total word nerd, I find language fascinating, and I am most certainly silently correcting your grammar. As such, I was so happy listening to this podcast. I’ve talked about EconTalk before, and while it is rooted in and often refers to economics, it’s about everything! This was all about the evolution of language, words without meanings, and contranyms. If it sounds nerdy, it is, but it is great.
Long walks
With the beautiful weather, I’ve been taking Pippa for longer afternoon walks and totally relishing all the outside time. And then I’ve been going on her evening walks with my parents, too. Usually, I make the point that three people walking one dog is silly, but we haven’t all seen a whole lot of each other during the days, so it’s nice to walk and catch up at night.
And that’s all for me for the week! Have a freaking fantastic weekend!
Your turn:
What’s one subject you nerd out over? I have a hard time narrowing it to just one. Language, econ, Harry Potter, health. You know. Just everything.
What are you loving lately?

“words without meanings” – now that is something I want to learn more about! 🙂

It was so fascinating! They have a “function” but no “definition”, and it made so much sense!
I love nerding out about so many things. I love psychology, and etymology and history and sociology and architectural history and on and on and on. I just think humans are interesting.
I need to paint my nails but having good nails while working at a restaurant is next to impossible.
Humans are super weird but, yes, also super interesting. I love learning.
Ugh yeah with all the hand washing and general use, I could see not being able to keep nails.
I love nerding out about history! It’s one of my favorite things; it’s fun for me to walk slowly through museums and just read the history. 🙂 Also I love studying how people think too. 🙂
I love history! So excited to learn all about European history while I’m there!! And people are fascinating, aren’t they?
OK, what color are your shoes? Also, did mom tell you that I am taking French at AU? Learning a FL at 73 is a challenge. Yes, I am the only “non-traditional” student in the class. Nice “professeur”. Are you doing anything yet with French? Looking forward to seeing you next weekend.
They’re gray! A little taupe, but mostly gray! You told me you’re taking French, but you’re way ahead of me. I know very, very little. See you next week!
long walks are so so nice. they truly make me so happy! that and hikes/yoga brings me peace. happy weekend!
I love hiking! I’m hoping I get to do some Europe hikes!
I’m so glad you’re back to posting more regularly!
I nerd out about psychology and health and wellness podcasts, blogs, articles, etc. But I prefer written or oral information, versus YouTube or the television.
I’m really loving blogs lately, even when I just skim them. They’re interesting and encouraging and uplifting. Thanks for writing one of the blogs in that category!
Aww that made my day! Thank you, Sarah!
