Hey, hi, hello! Happy Friday! How’s your week been? Mine has been pretty fantastic, but now it’s almost over. I’m looking forward to a weekend filled with beautiful weather, productivity, and relaxation. But before we close out the week, let’s look back on some of the things that made it lovely. Let’s get to it!
- Idina Menzel concert
On Wednesday night, my mom and I went to the Palace Theater and saw Idina Menzel perform. The tickets were my mom’s Christmas present from my grandparents, and the show was amazing. (If you have no idea who I’m talking about, Idina voiced Elsa in Frozen and was the original Elphaba in Wicked and Maureen in Rent on Broadway. She’s done a ton of other stuff, too.) Basically, she’s funny and has an extremely powerful, stunning voice. And she called all the little girls in the audience down to the stage to sing “Let It Go” with her.
It was adorable.
- Forno shrimp pizza
{This x 3}
We ate at Forno before the concert on Wednesday. Neither the service nor our appetizers (Caesar salad and browned Brussels sprouts) were fabulous. However, one bite of this pizza and we were very happy with our dining choice. The crust was the perfect combination of chewy and crispy, the red onions were a little caramelized, and the Parmesan totally complimented the shrimp. Neither of us particularly enjoys Alfredo sauce, so we asked to substitute a tomato sauce, and it was pretty incredible.
- Blueberry Vanilla Graham frozen Greek yogurt
Obviously, this isn’t as rich or sweet as “real” ice cream, but it is still absolutely delicious. It’s light, refreshing, and scoopable. Oh, and the graham cracker swirl tastes is a really nice touch! I’m not a pie crust person at all, unless it’s a graham cracker crust, and I love how sweet, crunchy, and graham-y this is.
- “Final” friend get-togethers
I’m just loving seeing my people for the last time before they head off to school again. They make me smile. That is all.
- Last day of work for the summer
It’s today, everybody! I’ve met a bunch of very nice people and learned some interesting stuff, but I’m pretty excited to spend the last few weeks before I head back to school doing a lot of relaxing. I foresee quite a bit of baking, blogging, cooking, and crafting.
And I think that’s it for me for the week! Have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll talk to you on Monday. 🙂
Are you a Broadway fan?
What all are you loving this week?

Happy Friday! I’m so jealous you got to see Idina Menzel – I heard she was going to be here this week but I just couldn’t make it. Hope you had a wonderful time!

It was great! My mom and I did see that she was in Chicago and thought it’d have been amazing to go see that!
I am a huge fan of all things Broadway! That sounds like an amazing time! I am sorry that the service and appetizer were sub par, but that pizza…Wow!
It was lovely 😀
I’m a huge Broadway fan! My brother is going to school in New York and I’m dying to go visit him and see some shows 😉 We grew up there and my parents would take me to a broadway play for my birthday every year. Glad you had a great time!
That’s such a fun birthday tradition! Love it. And it’s pretty awesome to be able to tie seeing a show into a trip to see your brother! Two birds with one stone 😉
When I was in high school I loved taking part in the musicals! I hope one day I can do one again.
It’s funny, because when I was a kid I couldn’t careless about the crust of pizza, but now I always take note of how delicious it is.
Same! I think I usually just left the crust when I was little, but now I judge pizzas by it 😛
Ellen!! You don’t like Alfredo sauce on pizza?!?!?! But it’s THE BEST! At first, I jokingly said (out loud, because I talk to my blogging peeps out loud :P), “Whhhaaat? Ellen?? I don’t think we can be friends anymore…” 😉 Then I read what you said about pie crust (my thoughts exactly…hate traditional pie crust, but love graham cracker crusts and some other cookie crusts), and I said, “Okay, never mind…” Really, though, I won’t hold your non-Alfredo-sauce-pizza-loving against you. 🙂 We can still be internet friends. <3
Totally weird, though: I just had my first Ben and Jerry's this week. My sisters and I shared some of their Chocolate Therapy, which was delicious! I can't wait to try more flavors!
I am so jealous you got to hear Idina Menzel!! Never seen any Broadway…but I really love her a gorgeous voice! How sweet of Idina to let the little girls come up and sing with her! I would have died of pleasure of someone had done that when I was little…I mean, when I was young, a famous person + singing opportunity would have pretty much put me on Cloud Nine for weeks.
Love Fridays!!
1) Sweet potatoes. I haven't had sweet potatoes in so, so, waaayyyy too long…this last week, I made Pinch of Yum's sweet potato noodles with cashew sauce (I added in rotisserie chicken and bacon 😛 ) and it was to. die. for. Swoon!! I <3 sweet potatoes!!! Addicted all over again… 😉
2) Baking. I used to do a lot of baking, but when my family went on a series of various diets, I largely stopped. Our family is now attempting to rebuild a more achievable and healthy relationship with food, and I just started baking more…and I'd forgotten how much I love it!! It's almost therapeutic! 😉
3) Yoga. As we continue to explore new ways to move and workout, my sisters and I have tried some at-home yoga videos, and I was shocked to see how quickly I noticed a change in my flexibility. Even if it doesn't seem to be doing much in the area of strength for me, I am really loving the improvement in how far I can stretch, bend and balance.
4) My dad's super-fast laptop. My laptop died the big death this last week, and my dad has been letting me use his, which is exponentially faster than mine. Everything I do goes zippy-quick, which I am loving, AND I feel totally spoiled! 😛
5) Homemade chicken broth. Stock with bones is supposed to be good for gut health, and though my sweet mom and sister used to make me some regularly, we stopped when I didn't think I needed it anymore. Well, this week, I needed some and decided to try making it myself (we just take the bones of rotisserie chicken after we've stripped the meat off and throw it in a pot to cook with some chicken broth, so not too hard). I'd forgotten how much I love it warmed up in a mug like tea…maybe weird, but so good on a chilly day.
Happy weekend! Have a great one!
Haha glad you won’t hold the Alfredo thing against me toooo much. After all, more for you! 😉
I’d have been so excited to sing with Idina as a little girl. Heck, I’d be excited now (you know, if I could actually sing…).
Sweet potatoes are the bombdotcom. Yes. You KNOW I love baking. I’m working on finding a place for yoga in my life again. It’s so good for me, and I just have to make it a priority. Yay for fast technology!!! I’ve never had homemade broth, but YUM. That is all.
Sorry it’s taken me so long to reply! Hope you’ve had a lovely last few days!
Ok, first of all, I am so jealous that you got to see Idina Menzel! But I think that was so cool what she did with the little girls. It seriously made me tear up. So sweet! I love it when celebrities take the time to do something, even when it’s something small to make someone else’s day a bit better. 🙂 *That* made my week awesome! Thanks for sharing it with us!
I. Can’t. Believe. that you and your Mom are not alfredo sauce people! How can someone not like alfredo sauce? I can’t wrap my brain around that! 😉
I had a mental list of favorites going in my head, but I can’t manage to remember any of them! Argh. Oh well.
Have an amazing weekend! 🙂
It was adorable and so nice of her to do! It melted my heart.
Hahaha yeah… I dunno. Just never done much for me. But hey, more for you, yeah?
That happens to me alllll the time. I’m usually scrambling to remember/come up with them. But it makes me feel so good to find those positive things!
Hope you’ve had a great last few days, Abbie!
