Hey hi hello. Happy Friday! How was your week? I had a very productive one, but I still have a bit of a to-do list heading into the weekend. Other than that, the next few days are looking pretty low-key, and I’m a-okay with that. So let’s kick off the weekend right by looking back at some of our favorite things from the week. Ready? Let’s do it.
Rainy workouts
I know that I complained yesterday about all the rain. However, I don’t hate working out in the (light) rain. Frankly, it’s kinda awesome. I went for a long walk with my mom on Sunday morning and it started raining partway through, and it rained for the last mile-plus of my Monday run. It’s annoying to get caught in a downpour if I’ve already showered and have places to be, but I think it’s a pretty refreshing way to finish out a workout.
All the Light We Cannot See
This is the book I’ve been listening to for about the last week and a half, and I finished it off yesterday morning. I’d be willing to say that I didn’t really “get” this book, but I still enjoyed it a lot. I like historical fiction, especially that centered on WWII, but this didn’t strike me as emotionally WWII stories often do (check The Nightingale for that). This sounds more critical than positive, but I really did like this book. I thought the language and the writing style were pretty, and while that isn’t usually enough to engage me in a story, I think that’s what did it this time. It’s more of an intriguing story than an exciting one, but it works. Also, if it seems like I enjoy all the books I read… well, that’s my main criterion for reading a book. I have no issue quitting a book if I’m not liking it, and I only tend to share the ones I finish!
Productivity
I’m not claiming I did hugely great things, but any feeling of being useful is a win for me, especially since I’m not working right now. Side note: today would’ve been my last day at my internship. This week, I’ve made it to a good physical therapy appointment, taken my dog to the vet, cleaned the house, sliced up a bunch more perfect bananas, done lots of writing and editing, and helped my mom conquer a big project at her work.
A perfect avocado
If you hadn’t already noticed, I love avocados and everything to do with them. It’s really rare that mine are perfect and pretty, though. Yes, they usually taste great, but maybe they’re a little mushy or have a brown spot. Not this one. I smiled so much when I cut into this that it’s a little embarrassing.
Oh, and the important part: it tasted really good, too. I ate half of it by itself, just topped with salt and pepper, and sliced up the other half to eat with steak and salsa. Avocados should always be like that.
A double (mother-daughter) date
Last night, my mom and I went to dinner with one of my high school friends and her mom. Abby, like most of my friends, heads back to college next week, so this was our last get-together till winter break. The last time we were out to dinner, we discussed the fact that it seems like most people our age don’t really like their parents. We both have good relationships with ours, so it was fun to hang out with them and each other.
Oh, and the food was tasty, too. I mean, put bacon, avocado, and chicken together, and I’m a happy girl.
And that’s all for me for this week! Have a fabulous weekend!

Productivity was one of my favorites this week as well! I started that book, but I couldn’t get into it. I’ve read a number of other WWII fiction books, though. I have a feeling that my workout tomorrow is going to be rather rainy. I hope I don’t get totally soaked, but Alex is married to the idea of running tomorrow morning.

I remember this one time I ran in the POURING rain…I only have cotton stuff too..so it was rather uncomfortable, but kind of thrilling all the same 😛
I’m currently reading “No Place To Die”….it is SO good!

Moms and avocados – does it get better? 😉 Thanks, Lyss! Hope you’ve had a great weekend!
being productive is the best feeling ever! And that ‘cado is oh so perfect!
I agree on both counts 🙂 Hope you’ve had a great weekend!
I love a good productive week! And why does a perfect avocado just make you smile after you slice it?!? Love it!! Have a great weekend.
It’s just so pretty, isn’t it? Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend!
Mmmm that dinner looks so good… bacon makes anything 500% better 😀 I’m loving avocados this week too! I bought a bunch that all turned ripe at the same time so I have REALLY been loving them these past couple of days, haha. This weekend I get to catch up with my sister who’s back from Myanmar and I can’t wait!
Oh my goodness that’s so cool! Enjoy catching up with her!
I just finished another book by one of my favorite mystery authors, Sue Grafton – so good! As for avocados…it’s ridiculous how many I go through these days! Just toooo creamy to resist!
I’ll have to check her books out – I really like mysteries!
I just started reading a new book called Cold Tangerines. I’m enjoying it so far. I can’t wait for avocados to come back into season here. They have been crazy expensive!
Apparently there has been a bumper crop this year which means there are heeeeaps of avos yay!
I just looked that book up and it sounds like the kind of thing I love! And yes, there’ve been lots of avocados here this year and it’s AWESOME.
Woah that avocado is perfect! And it is such a wonderful blessing to have a good relationship with our parents; it’s actually really neat to be able to say that my parents are some of my best friends. <3 And I totally agree that rainy workouts are actually really nice and refreshing.
I so agree. I love being able to consider my parents some of my best friends
Mother/daughter dates are the best. The most recent book I read that really left an impression on me was Ready Player One. Soooo good!
That book sounds really interesting! I’ll have to add it to my list 🙂
Alll hail the perfect avocadoooooooooooooo! 😛
I’m currently reading Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus which I am loving. You need to teach me your book quitting ways because prior to this book I read one that was a TOTAL flop but I kept on reading til the end as I can never quit on a book 😛
Hahaha I’m REALLY not a fan of wasting my limited free time on things I don’t enjoy, so I guess that’s where it comes from. I used to be bad at quitting books, too, but I’d rather just move on with my life at this point. 🙂
i LOVE working out in the rain (light rain, not crazy hard rain) cause it makes me feel like suchhh a bad ass. haha. and i feel like i always get a cheer or two by people driving by in cars.
and seriously – something about a perfect avocado sends a thrill up my spine. i get it girl. i get it.
Right? I know it’s just a little bit of water, but I feel like some kind of superhero for braving the rain for a workout ?
There is nothing quite like the perfect avocado, am I right?!
SO right. 😀 Knew the blog world would understand!
