Hey hey! Happy Friday! Any exciting plans for Memorial Day weekend? I flew home last night, so my plans include family time, studying for my first final (Thursday!), and a few of my cousins’ graduation parties. What do you say we kick off the long weekend right by looking at some of the best parts of the week?
- Storage
Last week, the UChicago housing office announced a significant reduction in the summer storage offered to students. They genuinely thought students wouldn’t be upset about or greatly inconvenienced by having almost unlimited storage reduced to approximately 4 shoeboxes. Not kidding. Anyway, enough people complained, and our storage space has been restored. This will make the end of the year move-out process much less stressful, since a bunch of my stuff just goes to the basement, rather than an outside storage unit. Yay!
- I’m a FitFluential Ambassador
I’m super excited about the opportunities it presents and, of course, to continue to share my love of health and fitness and delicious food with you. ?
- I’m an O-Aide
This year, I was a “house” o-aide, so I moved in early , helped decorate the dorm, and coordinated activities during first-year orientation. Next year, I’ll be a “registration” o-aide, so I’ll move in early and work with my academic adviser to help her new first year advisees create their schedules for first quarter. Being on campus early is so convenient, and it’s a great opportunity to get to know some of the incoming students.
- Visiting Mr. Wolf
My school schedule is such that I don’t usually get to go back and visit my high school teachers. I end school for the summer after my home school district and our spring and winter breaks coincide almost perfectly. When I figured out I was coming home this weekend, I emailed my favorite teacher and asked if I could come in today. He said, “Absofreekunlutely,” and I’ve been looking forward to catching up in person.
- Seeing my uncle
Ordinarily, I probably wouldn’t have come home just because it’s Memorial Day weekend, but my uncle moved to Georgia for police academy and to work in the police department just before I went to UChicago for my first year and I don’t think I’ve seen him since then. Anyway, he’s home this weekend and I had no idea when our times in Ohio would overlap again, so I decided to come home.
Catching up with him last night was awesome. I got to hear all about his exciting police life and tell him all about my boring school life. Today his parents are having a cookout so everyone gets to see him while he’s here, so that’s where I’ll be this afternoon!
And that’s all for me. Have a wonderful weekend! I’ll talk to you next week.
What are you loving this week?
What’s on your agenda this weekend?

Yayyyy! Congrats + welcome to FitFluential! <3 Glad that you got to see your uncle and that summer storage was restored–I don't think my college ever offered that (although I moved outta the dorms right after 1st year, so who knows :O ). Hope you have an amazing weekend! 😀 Hooray for being home!!
Thanks, Farrah! SO MANY congrats to you on graduating 😀
Enjoy your weekend home! Soak up the love!
Lots of love! Lots of studying, yes, but tons of love!
Woohoo, congrats on Fitfluential and for almost being done for the summer! Can’t believe you are still in the midst of finals… all the schools around here have been out for almost two weeks now. Good luck girl!
Thank you! And yeah, the quarter system is so crazy and different than most schools 😛
Hooray for getting your storage space back! How silly that they changed it with no real notice though!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend, lovely! xo
Hahaha it was such a strange move. Oh, well, it’s fixed now! Hope you’ve had an excellent week, Kristy ❤️
Have an epic time back home, Ellen- If you can, go to Brassica, Fusian and Jeni’s for me. 🙂
Perhaps when I’m home for the summer! The weekend FLEW by, but yes. And you should one day come visit when I’m actually in town 😛
Yay for being back home! I too have a few favorite teachers that I love visiting. I still remember my 4th grade teacher who made a huge impact on my life.
Awww I love talking to my elementary school teachers, too! They all love marveling at how old I’ve gotten ?

That’s so cool that you got to catch up with your uncle and hear all about his work and I don’t think you’re school life is boring. I love following it along. Being an O-Aide sounds fun! 🙂 Last of all, I love Fit Fluential community… 🙂
Awww thanks, Emily ? I’m so grateful to have met lovely people like you to connect with!
Hope you have a great weekend, Ellen! So glad you get to spend some quality time with your uncle and SO glad you get to keep more of your stuff in Chicago for the summer- I bet that’s such a relief!
It’s amazing! It’s the difference between paying for storage units here and just lugging a few boxes down to the basement 🙂
