The happiest of Fridays to you. This has been a very crazy and all over the place week, I’ve been doing work for the last five hours and need to go to bed, and it’s bound to be a full-of-work weekend, but I’m determined to find the good in it all. So, let’s talk about my favorites from the week (and last weekend)!
Driving with my mom
Hi, you knew this would be a fave. Driving around somewhat aimlessly with my mom on Mother’s Day weekend was nostalgic and fun. We laughed and listened to music and chatted and pointed out the pretty houses. She’s my hero and that’s one of my favorite traditions, forever and always.
That chocolate peanut butter pretzel shake
Ohhhhh my goodness. I’m not really a milkshake person unless they’re spoonable (this was), but even if it wasn’t, this shake was one of the most incredibly delicious things I’ve ever eaten. It was ultra creamy, peanut buttery, and laced with pretzel crumbs. I could truly eat these forever. Michael Symon, how do you make such utterly perfect shakes? Teach me your ways.
Help from one of my favorite sports writers
Aaron Portzline is a hockey writer for the Columbus Dispatch and I’ve followed his Blue Jackets work for years. He’s great. A few days ago, I was having some trouble finding hockey payroll data for my sports research project, so I tweeted at him and he direct messaged me help finding the sources I couldn’t find. So, that was awesome, and I’ll be sending him a copy of the final project to show that his help wasn’t wasted. 🙂
Random: the best shake from @BSpotBurgers and help from @Aportzline got me through the week. Share on XHelp from my dad
Even after I found all the data, I was struggling with the sorting and reorganizing in Excel. My dad spent a solid hour and a half on the phone helping me understand what to do, amidst one of three breakdowns I had yesterday due to a number of things not going well. He’s my hero.
End of the year chaos
I’m making this a favorite to put a positive spin on exactly what I’ve been struggling with this week. That is, everything is speeding the heck up as the year comes to a close and I feel SO BEHIND. However, you all know that I’ve been struggling with my emptier time for most of the quarter, so… at least that’s not a problem anymore. I haven’t had a working weekend, minus maybe a little reading, all quarter. That ends this weekend. I have a health problem set to do, a little sports reading to finish, more sports research, and who knows what else exactly. Anyway, lots of work. Very stressed, but at least I feel useful and have things to do.
And that’s all from me for the week! Have a lovely weekend and I’ll talk to you next week!
P.S. I’ve written so many emails lately, that I almost signed off, “Best, Ellen”. Ugh. Sorry y’all. Also, how do I have a final next week?!
Your turn:
Who’s your hero?
How are you finding the good in the tough stuff this week?
What’s on the agenda for your weekend?

I’m having a pretty decent week. It would have been better if we could have eaten outside at Roti ;D
Also, if that milkshake had been in my life. Holy balls.

You mean you didn’t want your sad to blow away?? Crazy. Thanks for hanging out with me. ALWAYS A HIGHLIGHT.
So many people inspire me, it’d be hard to pick a single hero!
My week has been tough to the max – finals (the last ones. EVER) start in a week and what’s keeping me sane is getting fresh air, talking it out with friends, calling my parents EVERY DAY and well, good food – some healthy for the body, others just for the mind 😛
Weekend = work + lunch with a friend + work + work + work. Yup.
Best of luck with your finals, girl!!
LOL I relate to the finals and working weekend and calling the parents. Good luck, Tanvi!!! You got this.
Oh the ups and downs of crazy life. I’m glad to read that you at least see how this is just the other side of what you’ve been struggling with lately (too much open time), so hopefully it isn’t TOO far on the stressful side and you can see the enjoyment in a bit of heightened hustle. Maybe? Get yourself another milkshake and go go go!
I think another milkshake is in order soon – this time celebrating the end of all the madness ???

You have a really good attitude about the chaos; that’s a really good way to put it. At least it means that you’re not bored, and that you have a lot of good things to keep yourself occupied.
That SHAKE? Wow. Chocolate + peanut butter is always good, and the size of that is epic.
I was certainly never bored during finals!
My hero’s probably my mom, as cliche as that sounds. So cool that the journalist messaged you back! And this weekend will be full of grocery shopping, Netflix and blogging!
That sounds like my perfect weekend!
So hard for me to pick one hero- I have some friends that are, my mom of course too. Also- that milkshake looks amazingggg
I aspire to make milkshakes that good!
That milkshake sounds SO good. And good luck on finals!! What always helped me get through was just telling myself, “it will all be over in (whatever number of) days whether I want it to be or not.” You’re so close to being done!!
Last weekend Eric and I started our road trip out to our new apartment and camped in Custer State Park (in South Dakota) along the way. The bad? It was absolutely freezing (there was snow on the ground!). The good in that? The campfire was that much more satisfying!
I’m lovvvving seeing all your travel pics! Looks like such a fabulous trip!
Oh mylanta that shake looks good!
This week I’m finding good in the tough stuff by taking time out to spend with friends and loved ones. Today my “quick coffee catch up” with a friend turned into two hours of talking life and everything inbetween and it was just what I needed!
I adore those life chats with friends!
Thankfully it seems like you’re almost done with the tough stuff. Hopefully things will calm down soon!
When things seem overwhelming I try to focus on my “mini victories.” or little things. Ex: Reading in the sunshine, completing a project/errand, going to bed early, staying in and watching a Disney movie vs. going out.
That’s such a good idea! I’m going to give that a try!
