Happy Friday! How was your week? Mine was, well, midterms. I’m free on Sunday, though, and I’ll be back to a more regular posting schedule next week. Thanks so much for bearing with me, and also thank you for all your support and lovely comments on Tuesday’s post. I have a couple of related posts lined up for later in the month, and I appreciate you caring about me and my issues as much as tasty food. You’re great.
Alright, honestly, I should probably do some work on my essay or get some sleep so I can be ultra-productive later. But before we head into the weekend, let’s look back at some of the good things from the week. This week, I’m focusing on some of my staples. This past week was the sixth of ten weeks (plus one week of finals) in an academic quarter. From about fourth week through sixth week, most people are not loving a whole lot. The middle of the quarter is about getting by. Today’s favorites? They’re what help me get by.
- Gum
I am the queen of procrasti-snacking. That’s a thing, I swear. If I don’t want to start studying, I can find something (or a million things) to snack on in order to delay the inevitable. When I really want to get stuff done, popping a piece of gum helps me focus on Freud instead of, well, food (but food is way more fun).
- Simple food
Okay, sometimes I actually do need food. Duh. I like spending a lot of time in the kitchen making fun new dishes, but this is not the time for that. This week, I’ve been loving pistachios and raspberries for snacking, but I also love dates and salted almonds or salted cashews. And also every other fruit + nut combo. They satisfy my want of something sweet, salty, and crunchy, and they’re nutritious.
And for meals? Eggs. I eat ’em for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Usually not all in the same day, but it’s happened before… They take all of five minutes to prepare, and you can do so much with them. It’s also usually a good way for me to make sure I’m eating some veggies, which is never a bad idea.
- Group chats
My Facebook chat with my high school friends is a good place to vent any ol’ time. Also, it’s a great place to celebrate when you finish an exam… or an entire school year, like they all just did. My Facebook chats with my current study groups are great places to complain about exams that were way too hard and ask questions while studying. My group text with my parents is great for love and pep talks.

You knew this was coming. Some people really like a hot cup of coffee… I really like fizzy Diet Coke.
- Looking forward to something
This week, in addition to being almost done with midterms, I’ve been looking forward to my parents visiting. Despite knowing that I’ll mostly be writing an essay, they offered to come visit this weekend. A little extra support while you’re working on an essay is never a bad idea, and I’ll get to see my mom on Mother’s Day. Yay!
And that’s all for me this week. I hope you have a beautiful weekend!
What’s the best thing you ate this week?
Any weekend plans?

Hahaha it so is! I try to a.) not procrastinate or b.) procrastinate in other ways, but nope snacking is always the result ?
My mom wants to go roller bladeing!? So that’s what I may be getting roped into doing this weekend 😛 Hahahahaha!
OMG have fun! What a Mother’s Day adventure!
i agree that simple food is the best food! I have never tried pistachios and raspberries together but that sounds amazing!!!
I’m imagining all the baking possibilities with this combo! So much good stuff!

Simple food is SO NICE when we’re busy. I love simple food! I hope you have an AMAZING time with your family!
Thanks, Emily! Enjoy your weekend 🙂
Do you ever get bloated after drinking the Coke? One reason I gave up pop was because carbonation hurt my stomach. If you have any advice on combating that I would love to hear it (not because I want to drink pop, but fizzy waters are good). One thing I’m looking forward to is TODAY! It’s my day off! And seeing my racing team next weekend. I can’t wait!
Hmm I don’t notice a difference in bloating with/without Diet Coke. I have cut it out/cut back at various points, but I’ve just accepted I bloat a bit because of IBS :/ Sorry I’m not more help! Have a great weekend, Ellie!
What about fountain diet coke?? YAAAS Hope midterms went well!
LOL well, no. Over, yes. 😉 And hey, I’m not turning down any Diet Coke (but I think I have the unpopular opinion that bottled/canned is better…). Good luck MOVING!
Ugh I love me some Diet Coke! I’m trying really hard this month to give it up since I know it’s so bad for me!
Let me know if you have any tips 😉
Hope you had lots of fun with your family this weekend! So glad that you got to see your mom for Mother’s Day! And hope your midterms all went well 🙂
Thanks, Liv! It was a good weekend. And I’m just glad the midterms are over 😀
I just rediscovered my love for eggs!!! How did I go so long without realizing they are an acceptable (and amazing) option for a quick and healthy dinner?! I hope you’re enjoying your freedom!! 🙂
Eggs are so good! I always think of them as “just eggs”, but whenever I actually have them, I’m reminded of how tasty they really are – no “just” necessary!
