Happy Friday to you from Florida! It’s Disney Princess race weekend, so I’ve left the unexpectedly beautiful weather in Chicago for some serious heat. But it’s all good and should be a fun time. I won’t post on the blog over the weekend, but be sure to follow along on Instagram! And before we get to the weekend fun, let’s look back at some of the best things from the week.
Seeing my family
Since I might be going abroad in the fall, my parents and I decided not to have our usual mid-quarter visit. It was fine, of course, but I missed them. And full disclosure: I seriously needed a hug by Thursday.
See, there is a chance I’m not running on Sunday. It breaks my heart, but since Monday (when I set out to run a quick two miles), there’s been a bad pain in my hip. It doesn’t happen when I’m doing anything but running and I’m hoping beyond hope that by some miracle it’ll all work out… but it might not. So, it’s been an emotional week, and as soon as I hugged my mom, I broke down.
Whether I run or not, I get to hang out with my parents, my aunt, and my little cousin, and that’s enough for a soul-filling weekend – even if it doesn’t turn out to be the weekend I expected.
White board notes
When I met my friend to do our econ homework at the library last week, someone left this lovely message on the white board by our table. I got way too much enjoyment out of it, so thanks to whoever took the time to script that. It couldn’t have been more accurate. It was a stunningly bright, blue day… and we were in the Reg.
Emmy’s Macaroons
I picked up the Dark Cacao variety of these at Whole Foods last week and I’m obsessed. They’re chewy and coconutty and not too sweet at all. Soooo perfect.
The end of the quarter
It’s weird to say this at the end of 8th week, but all my finals are the Tuesday of 10th week, rather than 11th week, sooo I’m almost done. I have a final essay due next Thursday, 3 finals the following Tuesday, and my final draft of my crime story is due the following Friday. So, one more real week and then 2.5 weeks of spring break. That’s so crazy!
Kombucha
I love fizzy, acidic drinks. These are too damn expensive, but I get one or two to savor each week and thoroughly enjoy them every time. They make me feel all energized and refreshed. I think this is my favorite flavor + brand, but I’ll take recommendations for more!
And that’s all from me for the week. I’ll be back Monday with… some update on what happens on Sunday. Have a fabulous weekend!
Your turn:
What’s your favorite non-water beverage? Alcoholic or non – I need some ideas for my birthday party. 😉
What’s on your agenda for the weekend?
Tell me something you’re loving this week!

If you like Kombucha but haven’t tried Kevita, get thee to a Whole Foods stat–they are on sale. I love them all! Good luck this weekend, love. Text me if you need me.

IT WAS ALL SO GOOD. Including the Kevita 🙂
No matter what happens this weekend, I hope you are able to enjoy the time away, the heat, and time with family. Sending positives vibes for that hip pain to subside stat.
I love kombucha, or a nice fizzy wine seltzer or sangria!!
It was a lovely weekend – and I adore sangria!
WE LOVE sparkling apple cider here, and I’m definitely praying for you this weekend; I hope you get some sweet time with your family too.
And I didn’t know that you’re thinking about studying abroad? Where would you go?
I’m thinking Paris or Rome!
I love that brand and flavour of kombucha too, the guava flavour is great as well! As for my fav alcoholic drink – pinot grigio! I hope your hip is feeling better soon and that you have an awesome weekend, race or no race! 🙂
Oooh I’ll have to keep an eye out for the guava!
I love both GT and Synergy kombuchas!! They certainly help with my ongoing gut sensitivities and I usually have 2-3 a week as well (they need to bring down the price though, I agree!!). I think my favorite (aside from juice ?) is Obi’s probiotic root beer! It’s sooo yummy; not exactly a conventional root beer, so if you go in hoping for that, you’ll probably be disappointed. But reminiscent of root beer and absolutely scrumptious for a probiotic drink (but it’s more sweet than acidic, so don’t know if you like that sort of thing…). Unfortunately also overpriced, but I usually treat myself to 1-2 a week. ?
Ooh that sounds yummy!
I’m sending you tons of good vibes, girly – in terms of your hip healing and your mindset of having fun either way! I know I’m struggling right now too (just got my fifth grad school rejection), so you’re not alone. Enjoy the time with your family and some Disney magic!
Aw, I’m so sorry! I hope you had a restful weekend my friend. I’m sure things will look up soon.
I loveee kombucha. Also the Bai5 drinks are super good. Those emmy macaroons have been my fave 🙂
OBSESSED with Bai drinks.
I hope the weekend is splendid, Ellen! Also, I really really really hope you get to study abroad. I’m sending you hugs for both the emotional and physical pain you’re enduring. You are a wonderful gal, Ellen! Sending you so much love.
Favorite non-water beverage… alcoholic? Sangria or a mojito. Mmmmm so good!
Thanks, Julia! It was a pretty fantastic weekend. And YES to sangria.
I just saw on FB that you finished (and rocked) your race! Yay!!! I’m so happy you were able to run and hope your hip felt great throughout the race.
Thank you!!! It was a good one 🙂
I want that person’s hand writing!!! <3
And I am reading this knowing that you OWNED that race this weekend so yay you! <3 <3 <3
