Happy Friday, everybody! How was your week? Are you ready for the weekend? I certainly am. I mean, I’m going to spend it studying for my midterms next week, but I’m ready for that. Also, how is it already midterm time? After next week, I’ll be halfway done with my antepenultimate quarter of college. Let’s see how many times I can use that word on the blog. Anyway, as usual, before I kick off my weekend of studying, what do you say we look back on some of the best stuff from the week? Cool.
A fantastic story
I’m not going to lie to you. I hate doing my Ancient Empires reading about 80% of the time. It’s long and often dry and it only loosely relates to what we talk about in class. When I don’t hate it, it’s because there’s some primary source that is vaguely interesting.
Yesterday, it was not vaguely interesting. It was hilarious. It was about a jokester who did a lot of strange things (we just had snippets to read), but my favorite is summarized as follows:
He is completely naked and at first appears to have neither a butt nor genitalia and then he does magic and they appear, and then he pees a ridiculous amount on a whole crowd of people watching him. He later turns a snake into a dragon and flies away.
I couldn’t stop laughing.
Support
I’m feeling the love so much this week. The middle-of-the-night puppy GIFs, group chats with my friends, blogger friends, study groups, and phone calls have totally gotten me through some not-so-easy moments lately. I’m lucky.
On the same note, I love being able to provide support to people who need it. I have a few friends going through some seriously tough stuff, and while I wish they weren’t, I’m glad to be there for them. We’re all in this together.
Rao’s Homemade Arrabbiata Sauce
This is perfectly spicy and goes with all sorts of meat and veggies. I’ve been loving combining this with roasted squash, crispy sautéed kale, and sausage (or chicken or bison or turkey). It’s made with simple ingredients and I can’t get enough.
Frieda’s purple sweet potatoes
I’ve seen these all over Instagram (hello, they’re gorgeous and totally photogenic), but I only found some for myself last weekend at Trader Joe’s. Naturally, I had to get them. They’re pretty and delicious, and we all know you can’t go wrong with that combo.
Sacha Inchi Seeds
These are another TJ’s find. I’d never heard of them before, but I’m always up for trying new snacks. They’re packed with protein and omega-3s, a little salty, and they kind of taste like a cross between a peanut and a hazelnut. But don’t quote me on that because describing flavors is hard. Anyway, I love them.
Strange stories, support, and all sorts of snacks got me through this week. #fituniversity Share on XAnd that’s all for me for the week. Have a wonderful weekend!
Your turn:
Red sauce or white sauce? Red for me!
What are you loving this week?
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
Well, that is quite a story indeed. Not sure what to make of that… sounds like something that we should do to the current government I DIDN’T SAY THAT. .<3
I've tried to get on board with purple sweet potatoes but they are a bit too starchy for me. Aw well, guess I'll just have to be uncool.

Because in blog world you’re uncool because of the kinds of potatoes you like. What a life. ?
Haha maybe your professor planned that assignment after a stretch of boring readings. I’m loving that it’s Friday. This was an insane week too (I wish I could blame these weeks on Mercury Retrograde…but that never coincides :)). Purple sweets—YES! I still think I like Japanese better but purple is obviously prettier.
Hahaha I love that you try to blame it on astrology ? And I think I agree about the sweet potatoes. I like others slightly better, but sometimes the aesthetic factors win out.
Def more of a fan of red sauce, which is weird because I used to hate tomatoes growing up. And I love purple potatoes, but I’m so mad my local grocery store doesn’t carry them, it’s so frustrating!
TJ’s is the only place I’ve been able to find them 🙁
LOVE that you’ve been able to love on others so much this week. And that purple sweet potato reminded me how excited I was to find organic sweet potatoes at Costco yesterday. I’m finally going to get on that train and start stuffing them with all sorts of good things.
Stuffed sweet potatoes are the best! Enjoy!
yesss love purple sweet potatoes!! those have been one of my faves lately too. topped with nut butter is amazing!
YESSSS to nut butter topped sweet potatoes. Every day!
Ellen, I was your dads fifth grade teacher….we have connected playing words with friends….also good friends with your grandparents. Your dad shared your blog …
Enjoyed but also have granddaughter who will enjoy particularly the food !
Nice to “meet” you and thanks so much for reading and sharing! 🙂
I feel like one of the first things I’m going to buy when we’re in the US is a purple sweet potato as I can’t find them here!
I’m also intrigued by those sacha inchi seeds too! Trader Joes always has the best stuff!
SO excited that you’re coming to the US 🙂
