Hey there! Happy Friday! I’m going to keep this short and sweet because I have class pretty soon and plans for the evening, but I wanted to pop in and say thank you for your support this week. You’re the best. And, of course, I wanted to start the weekend on a happy note by looking back at my favorites from the past week. Let’s chat, shall we?
Roasted Hazelnuts
I always forget about hazelnuts, because I don’t really love them raw. However, I picked up these roasted ones at Trader Joe’s when I saw them last week and have loved snacking on them. They’re toasty, buttery, and lightly crunchy.
Coconut oil
I mean, I’ve loved coconut oil for ages. It’s my favorite for getting roasted veggies nice and crisp, and it often works well in dairy-free baking in place of butter. However, it was just this week I started to love it as a skincare product. I have the world’s driest hands, and a tiny amount of this actually makes it a lot better. Weird, but it works.
How to Create a Self Care Box
This post from the lovely Kylie is wonderful. The things included remind me a lot of lifesavers, and having a bunch of things that make you feel good in one place is the best idea for any day you’re not feeling so hot… or whenever you have some extra time on your hands to take care of yourself.
What No One Ever Says about New Beginnings
I shared this on Facebook last year, and one of my friends just tagged me in it again a few nights ago. I could talk about all the reasons I find it meaningful and important, but I’ll just say that even though beginnings and change are still scary for me, they’re slowly becoming more exciting and manageable, and I like that.
My favorite line from the article: “You are not starting with nothing in this new year. You are starting with YOU—the very most important thing you could have, and all you need to begin.”
Phantom of the Opera
I saw this last night! I’d never actually seen the musical, just listened to the soundtrack over and over (often while cleaning the house with my mom…?), so it was exciting. I love the music and think this was beautiful and very well done, but I think the plot is rather weak and silly. My favorites of the musicals I’ve been to are still How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying and Wicked.
And that’s all for me for now! I have a weekend of reading, writing, cooking, and doing yoga ahead of me. Have a lovely weekend!
Your turn:
What would go in your self care box?
What’s your favorite musical?
Any fun weekend plans?

It’s warm now! But we might blow away…
Oh I loved the Phantom! I saw something about them making a Mean Girls musical here in DC this Fall that I am so excited about! And I need to try coconut oil on my hands, they are always SO dry!
A Mean Girls musical would be so funny!
Lmao I was legit going back and forth on whether or not to go to Trader Joe’s after work, but since you mentioned those hazelnuts, now I’m 100% going to go! What other Trader Joe’s snacks do you recommend?
I’m big on selfcare nowadays. If I can clear my head of all my worries and distractions, then I believe I can tackle what’s holding me back and make progress towards an ideal future. I think I would include face masks, my favorite album, twinkly string lights, chocolate, and Netflix LOL.
Ahhh I’m sorry I’m getting back to you late! But yes, I love TJ’s! I love their coconut chips, pretty much all their trail mixes and nut butters, plantain chips, freeze-dried fruit, and guacamole packs. 🙂
And YES to focusing on self care. SO important.
We saw Les Miserables in London, and that was incredibly powerful. The story of redemption and forgiveness and the powerful music to go along with it is really really moving.
Hmm… In a self care box, I might put a movie to watch with my sisters, a good book, my Bible, music, and maybe some trail mix?
Those hazelnuts sound so good! I love love love hazelnut.
I’d love to see Les Mis sometime!
Now you’ve made me want roasted hazelnuts. Lately I’ve been eating them though… only in baci chocolates 😉
Hmm and a self care box for me would have to include a massage voucher, some cute socks, tea and chocolate!
Nothing like chocolate and hazelnut! Yum. And your self care box sounds perfect to me!
Omg Phantom of the Opera ALL DA WAY. It’s my favorite musical!! 🙂 In a self-care box I’d probably have some dark chocolate, peanut butter, hot chocolate, and a masseuse. Is that allowed?! 😉 Lol
It’d have to be a big box, but I certainly wouldn’t object to an on-call masseuse 😉
