Hey there! Happy Monday! Did you have a good weekend? Even though we did get that “extra” hour thanks to Daylight Savings Time… I could’ve used a longer one. Still, I was able to use a decent bit of the weekend to catch up on both homework and relaxation, so I suppose it all worked out. Shall we catch up on the weekend happenings?
I had part of my Spanish midterm on Friday, but after that I was free to start catching up on IR reading. Or so I thought… I did make my way through about half of it, but only after a few mini-crises related to the Halloween party I was in charge of organizing on Friday night. It’s a long story how I got this role, but suffice it to say it wasn’t something I planned on doing.
So, on Friday we realized there were no pumpkin carving kits left in Hyde Park. We ended up rounding up a bunch of kitchen knives to use for pumpkin carving (it turned out to be more like pumpkin chiseling). Also, the DVD system and projector weren’t working for us. Which left me kind of scrambling to figure stuff out and also dreading said party.
{Pre-party fake enthusiasm}
Somehow, it all (mostly) worked out. We figured out the DVD system about five minutes before the technical start time of the party.
{The Nightmare Before Christmas}
People carved pumpkins and showed up in costumes. (I forewent a costume and just stuck to being the host. I’m super exciting.) There was candy and pie.
{See that bowl of M&Ms and Snickers? Pretty sure I consumed half of it throughout the evening.}
And many of my lovely housemates showed up to keep me company and make the party feel a little more vibrant.
{They’re great.}
After tear-down, I went to bed. Unfortunately for me, my brain was a little overactive on Friday night and I think I slept for about three hours. Come Saturday, I was grateful to have planned on some relaxation.
{Sleeeeeepy.}
It was a gross, rainy day, and I spent the afternoon getting a much-needed massage and grocery shopping at Target. After the long week and lack of sleep, it was perfect.
I felt kind of lame for not actually doing Halloween-y things on Halloween, but mostly I needed a night of really chill time. So, I made myself a flatbread pizza, studied Spanish, watched Gilmore Girls while eating snacks, and was in bed by 10 pm.
Fall back caused me to wake up at 4:20 am, but Sunday was otherwise pretty uneventful. I hung out and studied with friends, caught up (finally!) on my IR reading and the rest of my to-do list, and napped a little.
And now it’s time for another busy week. I have the second half of my Spanish midterm today, my IR midterm on Thursday, and an essay due next Wednesday. I’m hoping to maintain my sanity and life balance a little better this week than last, but no promises 😉 Have a lovely Monday, everyone!
How was your weekend? Did you do fun things for Halloween?
What’s your favorite Halloween candy?

Looks like a great turnout for your Halloween party! (Even if you got roped into doing it last minute haha).
My favorite Halloween candy is probably Reese’s cups, but honestly, I’d love to just go door-to-door collecting dark chocolate 😉
I was out of town for Halloween so I missed all of the craziness that happened on my college campus on Saturday night, but I’m not too bummed about it 😉

Dark chocolate sounds like my kind of trick-or-treat!
Haha I was out of town for it last year, and yeah… I don’t feel like I’m missing out on too much. 😉
At least you got in some “real” Halloween celebrating! I didn’t do anything 😛 I actually watched Christmas movies on Hallmark…hahahahahaha! So festive 😉
Haha you’re a couple months ahead of schedule, but no judgment – Christmastime is fun! 🙂
Even though we had an extra hour, the time change really messed with my body. I was in bed at 7 pm. No shame! Also, your friends who were mermaid man and barnacle boy??? HILARIOUS. I’m saving that in my notes on my computer for next year.
I’m embracing any early nights I can get right now. My body needs the sleep 🙂
YES they were so creative! Love it!
I always get thrown out a bit by daylight saving too! My Hallowe’en was a bit unusual as I went to a concert so didn’t do the whole dress-up and trick-or-treating thing. I had a brilliant night regardless though and will just have to make a double effort on my costume next year.
Best of luck for the rest of your midterms.
xx
Sounds like a great way to enjoy Halloween to me! Glad you had a good time!
Beautiful weekend. Had our co-ed poker group Saturday night. Fun, but no costumes.
Snicker bites are my favorite—–anytime.?
Fun! I had plenty of Snickers on Friday. They’re so yummy!
I’m not a huge candy person, but I do like pretty much any TJ’s candy (<- I know, total nerd). I also used to love the s'mores bar candies, but I haven't had one of those in forever!
My weekend was the spent at the hospital with my extended family and my mom, staying with my grandma, who is in ICU. She had heart surgery that didn't end up as smoothly as planned and she had two strokes after surgery. It's a long road to anything like recovery and she is not going to get everything back, but how impaired she'll be still remains to be seen. It's heartbreaking, crushing and terrifying all at once, though even still, I am glad for some of the experiences that came through it. I just wish I could have had those experiences without my grandma having a stroke.
Hope your week is awesome, Ellen, filled with amazing, wonderful people! <3
Aww I’m so sorry about your grandma! I hope her recovery progresses well.
I hope you have a great week, too, Hannah! 🙂
You look so pretty in these pictures! I love your blog!! My favorite Halloween candy is EVERYTHING 😉
Thanks so much! 🙂 Haha I don’t discriminate much either when it comes to candy.
