I took notes for this post on Tuesday, and it’s fairly representative of how our days at home go right now. Except for bedtime because, holy crap, this was a long bedtime. That is pretty rare these days, but it happens occasionally. We were home most of this day, but were out and about a good bit the other days this week. This is what 6 months looks like!
3:37am – C is up. I go in, change her, give her Tylenol (those top teeth are giving her some serious trouble), and nurse her back to sleep. I manage to do all this without having a coughing fit and waking her up further, so it’s a serious win.
3:58am – Go back to bed.
5am – I hear C cry twice, but they were either sleep cries or she just put herself back to sleep really quickly. I, on the other hand, do not really go back to sleep.
5:45 am – Get up, brush my teeth, put my contacts in, and go downstairs. Ben must have gone downstairs when I got up with C, because he’s on the couch. I say hi to him, make coffee, eat a Kind bar, and pump while I play Wordle and then read.
7am – C is up. I get her after she plays in her crib for a few minutes. Jack feeds the dogs.
7:45am – I go shower and get ready.
8:10am – Take over with C while Jack gets ready for work. I nurse her and then let her play on the floor while I eat breakfast. She insists on practicing crawling until she is simply too exhausted to do it anymore. She hasn’t quite figured it out yet, but she’s damn close.
8:50am – We head up to her room to prep for a nap. She plays on the rug in her room for a while, and when I can tell she’s getting sleepy, I slip her into a sleep sack and we read Barnyard Dance (twice). Then I turn on her music, turn off her lights, and nurse her to sleep.
9:12am – She’s asleep. I go finish the chapter of the book I was reading before I go work out for the first time in a week. (I had a nasty head cold. Now I just have the asthmatic cough that will plague me for about a month.) I got tired of the format of the Expecting and Empowered workouts (they’re not bad at all, I’ve just been doing the same type of workouts since I got pregnant and wanted something different), so I switched back to one of the programs I followed pre-pregnancy. It feels good.
10am – Done working out. I come inside and read for a bit.
10:45am – C is up. I go get her and change her out of her pajamas, and then bring her downstairs to play. Since she’s very happy immediately after a nap, I take advantage of the independent play time / crawling practice. I unload the dishwasher, make a batch of breakfast sandwiches to throw in the freezer, start marinating pork chops for dinner, and clean the kitchen.
11:45pm – She’s done being independent. She hangs out in the bouncy seat and watches me finish up in the kitchen for a few minutes.
12:10pm – I nurse her and then she climbs all over me, plays with my face, and practices petting Ben.
12:30pm – Jack heats up lunch. We have leftover creamed feta garlic herb butter salmon (I used a bunch of spinach in place of the zucchini) and lemon thyme potatoes. C plays on the floor for a few more minutes. When I’m done eating, I join her. And then I leave my phone locked near her while I clean up a little before her nap, and when I come back, she has looked up the word “zirconium.” No clue how or where she stumbled across it.
12:55pm – I take her upstairs and she rolls around her floor for a while before I slide her into her sleep sack and we read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom.
1:12pm – C falls asleep. I go downstairs and read.
1:52pm – I often get lucky with the morning nap and it’s a nice hour and a half. This doesn’t happen more than once a day, though. She’s up again.
2:06pm – I eat some ice cream while C plays on the floor for a while.
We babble back and forth and I tell her what a good job she’s doing.
3pm – Join C on the floor to sing and be silly with her. She starts giggling and I turn up the silliness to get more giggles because they are the best. There are never enough C giggles. Also, she eats my leg.
3:55pm – Head upstairs because, oof, somebody needs a nap. She gets a second wind upstairs, though. I take the opportunity to gather up trash and take it out to the garage.
4:13pm – Read If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and then try to nurse C to sleep.
Have a coughing fit and she wakes all the way up. Try again. Have another coughing fit and rouse her again. Let her get down on the floor to play, and then when she’s done, pick her up and finally nurse her to sleep.
4:55pm – Successfully get her asleep and in her crib.
5pm – Start laundry, vacuum the living room, and chop lettuce and potatoes for dinner.
5:30pm – C is up. I go get her while Jack takes the trash out to the curb, and then I pass her to him so I can finish up dinner and flip laundry to the dryer.
6:20pm – Jack and I eat pork chops, Caesar salad (this dressing + lettuce + tomatoes + Parmesan crisps), and potatoes while entertaining a very-tired C. The dinner combo is a little random, but the asparagus I bought already went bad, so the salad was a “what can I make with what I have?” move.
6:50pm – C and I head upstairs. I change her into pajamas, slide her into her sleep sack, and we read Time for Bed and You’re My Little Cuddle Bug.
7:12pm – Lights out.
7:38pm – I think she’s asleep and I’m about to have a coughing fit, so I put her down. As I’m leaving the room, I notice she’s awake. Usually when it takes a long time to get her to sleep, she’s hungry, so I go ask Jack to heat me up a bottle and give her a few minutes, but she just wakes up more. By the time he brings the bottle, she just wants to play.
8pm – Jack goes up to hang out while C play. I drink some water, go check on Jack and C, and then get laundry out of the dryer. When I return, C is rolling all over the floor and trying so, so hard to crawl. I predict that she’ll only be ready for bed once something makes her mad. Sure enough, she pulls her knees all the way in toward her hands and then topples forward onto her forehead. And she absolutely melts down, as she only does when she’s exhausted. I scoop her up and kiss her and soothe her and offer her the bottle again. She chugs it, and I put her down.
8:33pm – I call my mom to chat while I wash my face and change into pajamas.
8:45pm – As I leave our room, I hear C babbling. I ask Jack for more milk and go rock C. When he comes up with the bottle, she chugs it, nurses for another few minutes, and passes out. Oof.
8:57pm – I come downstairs and eat the rest of my ice cream and read a little.
9:45pm – Head up to bed. Toss and turn and cough a good bit.
10:32 pm – Finally fall asleep.
