Happy Wednesday! Having been back in Chicago for a little over two weeks, I’m starting to find a routine (yay). So, I thought I would share my typical Tuesday with you. For a look at some past days-in-the-life, go here. And here’s a look at my yesterday.
5:03 am – Wake up. It’s a little early, but I was in bed before 10 Monday night. Still, I lie in bed and scroll through social media for a bit before I face the day.
5:25 am – Get up and change into workout clothes. Drink water as I adjust to light.
5:42 am – Head to the dorm basement to work out.
6:22 am – Done working out. Check my email and scroll through social media while cooling down and stretching.
6:55 am – I took my sweet time since my obligations this morning are minimal (okay, pretty much nonexistent), so I finally hop in the shower.
7:15 am – Get out of the shower and chat with a fellow early-ish riser for a bit about her quarter so far. Quarters move so fast! We’re already nearly a quarter of the way done.
7:25 am – Hair and makeup and all that jazz.
7:47 am – Check the weather. Feel clever.
I’m no scientist, but I’m pretty sure “feels like -9°” means “can’t feel anything because you’re numb”. #chiberia pic.twitter.com/3TzeKV51L9

It wasn’t that funny. It’s okay. I amuse myself.
7:50 am – Get dressed. Check that today is supposed to be the coldest day of the week. It is. That means I can wear my tallest, thickest socks.
Because that extra three inches under my jeans is the difference between dying of exposure and being totally comfortable, obviously. Also, opt to wear a big cozy sweater.
8:13 am – Eat breakfast. I make a goal weekly to change up my breakfasts. And I usually stick with cereal and Greek yogurt and fruit.
{Banana, cereal, vanilla Greek yogurt}
Maybe next week. I relax and read blogs while breakfasting.
8:59 am – Make tea. Put away mountain of clean dishes.
9:17 am – Make more tea and address the letters I wrote yesterday.
9:38 am – Eat Brown Sugar Cinnamon Baked Oatmeal.
My classes go till about 1:30 and I’ll be hungryhungryhungry if I don’t eat more before then.
10:00 am – Head out to mail my letters before going to class. Realize after being at this school for over a year that I’ve been walking too far to send mail. There’s a mailbox right outside my dorm. This makes sense, but I never noticed. Feel stupid. Call my mom to chat and fill the extra time before econ.
10:30 am – Time for intermediate macroeconomics. We prove the welfare theorems. Please don’t ask me to do this, ever.
11:50 am – Class ends and I head to statistics, which starts at noon. The material we’re covering now is essentially the same as what I did in AP Statistics in high school, so class is honestly boring. I jot down notes for this post in my stat notebook.
1:20 pm – Walk back to the dorm to make something to eat before meeting my econ study group.
1:50 pm – Sit down to eat what I intend to be part one of lunch.
{Black forest ham, cheddar jack cheese, sweet potato, oddly large baby bell peppers}
1:56 pm – Econ friends inform me they’re on their way over. I quickly finish eating, know I’ll be hungry soon, and go sign them into the dorm.
2:05 pm – Start econ. It’s not easy and we question our major throughout the afternoon.
4:00 pm – Realize I need more food if I’m to make it through the study session, so I grab a snack/the necessary second half of lunch.
{Plain Greek yogurt, Wild Friends cinnamon raisin peanut butter, blueberries, raspberries}
5:48 pm – We’re stuck and give up on econ for the day and agree to finish it tomorrow. It’s due Thursday morning.
6:00 pm – I make dinner for myself and clean up the dishes as I go.
I also bought beets over the weekend because Rebecca told me to try them. Verdict: not a fan. After cooking them and discovering this, I microwave a sweet potato to go along with my maple-balsamic salmon and sautéed Brussels sprouts.
6:40 pm – I call my dad to chat about econ and life as I walk to my SWS meeting. Also, I grab chocolate.
7:09 pm – The meeting starts. We talk about options and Starbucks expanding to China.
8:01 pm – I head back to the dorm, where I catch up with a friend I somehow managed not to see all weekend. We talk about classes, the GRE, and job stuff.
8:32 pm – I come upstairs, pull together a snack, and eat while working on this post.
{A couple clementines, an apple, plain Greek yogurt, Wild Friends chocolate coconut peanut butter}
9:50 pm – Finish up this post and realize I’m still kind of hungry. Get some another piece of chocolate and some oatmeal. Excuse the lack of a picture, but it was this. It was on clearance this weekend and honey and peanut butter sounded like an awesome change of pace from the usual fruity oatmeal flavors. It was honestly pretty good. It didn’t have that “protein” aftertaste at all and was nicely peanut-y. I’d get it again.
10:10 pm – Get ready for bed.
10:20 pm – Lights out!
Beets: yay or nay?
What was/is your favorite class in college?
Ellie says
I like beets in smoothies of if they are roasted with some kind of honey or sugar on them. My mom used to make Harvard Beets and they were this warm saucy, thick beet dish that I LOVED. I don’t like them just plain though.
My favorite college class was Obesity and Society because the professor was so great. I seriously had a girl crush on her. Think Ellen Degeneres but with brown hair.
Your meals look yummy. I hope you stayed warm!

I might have to try beets prepared differently… I just had them plain & steamed for the first time. That class sounds really interesting!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! How did you eat them?????
And cozy warm socks and the biggest sweaters and the ONLY way to survive the -9999999 degrees :/
Hahaha I’d be willing to try them again, but I just had them steamed. Is that wrong?
Make this… http://strengthandsunshine.com/raw-balsamic-tahini-beet-noodles/
YES to beets. They are amazing and my favorite. Perhaps try golden beets. They aren’t as strong, and are a bit more sweet. I need those socks. Good for you staying warm down there in Hyde Park!
My favorite class in college, hmmmm. I loved my architectural history classes (my major) and landscape architecture. And any class with a cute boy, lol. Until I met my bf, OBVIOUSLY.
Apparently, I need to give beets another try 😉
Wow – your major sounds cool! LOL cute boys always make class a little better 🙂
Love the socks! I’m a big beetroot fan and have them raw pretty much every day… perhaps give them a go in a chocolate beetroot brownie recipe if you have some to use up?
xx
Oooh that sounds like a beet recipe I can get behind 😉
I love that wild friends peanut butter! So so good. My favorite class as of now is probably social psychology! And I have actually never tried beets!
I’ve never taken a psych class, but that sounds fascinating!
Not so much with the beets. Although to be fair I’ve barely tried them. My favorite prof taught my first two stats classes, so those were favorites. I also loved abstract algebra and Western Civ. The one from the Renaissance on was way better than the one from Greece to Renaissance.
I have a feeling I’ll be taking Western Civ in some capacity next year!
I always love your day in the life posts! And not a beets fan, either. I always think of Dwight Schrute, too, haha!
My favorite class is usually because of the professor, so this semester, it’s my legislative politics class so far. The professor is awesome!!
Professors are absolutely the biggest factor in my enjoyment of a class. I’ve been fortunate to have had some great ones – and it sounds like you have, too!
I am very particular about my beets. I strongly dislike red beets cooked unless they are puréed and used as the base of a sweet and strong flavored baked good (like chocolate muffins). Golden beets are pretty good roasted, but my favorite way to eat any kind of beets (and the only way I’ll eat red beets) is probably raw and shredded. Great in a slaw or salad! It adds a bit of sweetness and there are usually a lot of other flavors and textures involved so the beets don’t take over.
Hmmm maybe I’ll have to try a different preparation.
I love reading these posts! I am not a fan of beets at all, I think they taste like dirt. No, I’ve never eaten dirt before, it’s just a presumption I have 😉 I too love cleaning up the dishes as I cook. That way after I finish eating I don’t have a ton of pots and pans to wash #win. Have a great day <3
Blessings,
Edye
Exactly – I like to finish a meal and relax, rather than having to work… even though doing the dishes isn’t exactly hard work 😉
I’m also taking statistics this semester after taking AP Stat my senior year of high school… Let’s hope it ends up being more of a review for both of us all semester!
Best of luck!
raw shredded beets are really good in a salad with fennel & oranges, but i LOVE them roasted! rub with a touch of evoo, s&p, then wrap in foil and bake in the oven at 425 for 40-60-75 minutes (because beets can be small and BIG)
Awesome! Thanks for the tips. I’ll give ’em another try!
