Whenever I do day-in-the-life posts, they feel a little extra self-indulgent, but you all always seem interested in what I’m up to. I guess bloggers and blog-readers are a nosy bunch, eh? Anyway, since I have a pretty set posting routine in the latter half of the week, I often only chronicle my Mondays or Tuesdays. Last Wednesday, I decided it would be nice to switch things up a little. So, here we go: here’s last Wednesday in my life!
5:04 am – I’m awake, even though I’m not mentally ready to be. I lie in bed for a while, check my email, and scroll through social media. One of the first things I see is this lava cake. I seriously consider ordering ramekins just so I can make it, like, now.
5:45 am – I actually get out of bed, change into workout clothes, and sip some water.
5:55 am – Head down to the basement and work out.
6:35 am – Go upstairs and cool down, stretch, and read blogs – with a view.
7:06 am – Shower time. It’s warm and the day is cold and I don’t really want to get out and be a responsible adult. Eventually, I do. #littlevictories
7:28 am – I see a Facebook post from a friend about giving up Diet Coke for Lent. I text my mom.
7:32 am – I do my makeup and hair and turn the heat up in our bedroom. The heat is always up a little lot too high for me in the common space in the apartment, but my roommates like it that way. I can always just hang out in my room or leave the apartment, so it’s not a problem. Honestly, we even keep the bedroom pretty warm during the day, but I turn it way down at night. And then it gets chilly by the morning, so it goes back up. My friends and I talk about the fact that this is the only time in our lives when we’ll be able to use extra heat without paying extra for it. We take advantage.
7:56 am – I make my bed and seriously consider wearing the same thing I wore yesterday, but in a different color. I’m not above that. I then realize it’s the same thing I wore in the last day-in-the-life post.
I opt for different clothes because I want to project the image of togetherness and variety. I just shattered that illusion by telling you that. Oops. Oh, well. Honesty is the best policy.
8:15 am – I eat breakfast and read blogs for a bit.
9:01 am – I force myself to start reading for sosc. I’ve fallen into the really bad habit of doing my sosc reading right before class.
9:58 am – Finish reading for sosc and gather up my stuff. Procrastinate leaving a little because it’s cold.
10:18 am – I leave later than usual, but it takes all of 5 minutes to get to class, so it’s not a big deal.
10:30 am – Class starts and we discuss the (past) Hawaiians and the relation of their myths to their history and the structure of their lives. This is what we were reading, if you’re interested. (We have since moved onto Michel Foucault.)
11:20 am – Class ends. I walk to the building next door and my teacher soon follows so we can talk about my plan for the essay that was due yesterday. It was about Durkheim and religion, and the identity between god and society for Australian tribes.
11:55 am – I head to our student union to meet the social media manager for our chapter of Spoon University. I’m an editor for Spoon, and I was picking up cookies to deliver to a few people for a Valentine’s Day fundraiser. I also get a Wednesday milkshake because I’m there, I have time, and it’s a dollar.
12:13 pm – Sit and eat my shake. I read blogs, work on my stat problem set, and eavesdrop people watch for a while.
2:15 pm – I head back to the dorm and get a snack (blueberries and pistachios and Greek yogurt) after I make a to-do list to try to get my life in order. 😉
2:45 pm – I try to do statistics a little more, but I get stuck.
4:00 pm – Since I’m stuck, I decide I have time to make donuts for my RA, who was sad he missed the first batch I made. My usual 5:00-7:00 Wednesday meeting isn’t happening this week.
5:15 pm – Wash the dishes from the donut-making.
5:41 pm – Throw together a super-fast dinner of sausage and roasted broccoli and cauliflower. I don’t have a whole lot of time before I have to leave.
6:00 pm – I head down to the lobby to meet the people I’m supposed to deliver cookies to. I find one of them, but wait and wait and wait for the other. I text her and give her my room number before heading back upstairs. I have work to do.
6:45 pm – Re-realize I have the nicest dad in the world as he patiently explains stat concepts that I’ve learned before over the phone. I’m tired and not much is sinking in. (Update: It’s all good now.)
7:02 pm – Hear a knock on the door and bring the last bag of cookies to the orderer. And then continue doing stat homework.
7:31 pm – Finish my problem set and scan my homework into a PDF. Submit it online and work on Thursday’s blog post.
8:06 pm – Cut up an apple, peel several clementines, grab a Greek yogurt, a piece of dark chocolate, some toast, and a scoop of Justin’s Vanilla Almond Butter. Snack and relax for a bit.
8:39 pm – My other RA posts in the house Facebook group asking if anyone has a whisk or an electric mixer. I tell him we have both because we’re overachievers. He comes up to get one and when ask which he prefers, he wants to see the mixer. I show him and he gets really excited:
“When I was a kid, I always wanted to use one of these and my mom would never let me! I want that one!”
I ask what he’s making for study break and he says chocolate chip cookies. Looks like I’ll be staying up a little later. I want cookies.
9:42 pm – Go downstairs to get fresh chocolate chip cookies, talk to a few housemates, and head straight back to my room. It’s basically my bedtime. My roommate is already asleep.
10:05 pm – Lights out!
What’s your favorite emoji? Favorite nut?
Do you have a regular bedtime? Mine is usually before 10:15. People tease me. No big deal. ?
Strength and Sunshine says
They tease you for 10:15???? Well…I guess 8:30 will get me banished 😛 Hahahaha!
Favorite nut – Cashews, but pistachios are pretty fine 😉 Just take a bit more work! Hahaha!
EllenSlater says
8:30 sounds amazing to me! I love cashews, too, and I’m almost out of them. I should remedy that situation 🙂
My favorite emoji is the monkey covering it’s eyes. Idk why but I love that one! Your day looks pretty full! I don’t remember ever baking or cooking in college because I didn’t have/make time and had an unlimited meal plan. Have a great day Erin 🙂
Aww I think the monkey emoji is adorable! And I really could say I don’t have time for cooking, but right now I’m making a huge effort to make time to do things I love and along with blogging, cooking and baking definitely make the list. 🙂
YOUR VIEW. I’m tempted to make that my background. It’s so beautiful and very different from the view I’m currently looking at from my dorm room here in San Diego.
My bedtime, when I can, is like 8:30, so don’t feel too bad. 😉
8:30 is a pretty fantastic bedtime, if you ask me!
Haha, I can’t believe people tease you for a 10:15 bedtime! I like to be in bed by 9, but realistically, it’s usually around 9:30 before I’m settled in. On a bad day, 10. ?
Ooh, favorite emoji AND favorite nut?? Two nearly impossible questions. I think I’d have to say pistachios and cashews are tied…cashews are so versitle and save my dairy-allergic-self so many times with scrumptious alternatives. Out-of-hand, though, roasted + salted pistachios would win. I am a *huge* emoji fan (as I’m sure you’ve noticed with my plethora of emojis in comments! ?). I love all the hearts and ?? are two of my most used, but the good old winking-sticking-out-tongue face holds a special place in my heart. Hands-down my most frequent/most broadly applicable, and so gosh-darn cute! ?
Haha I think 11pm is early to a lot of people here. Cashews and pistachios are two of my faves, too! And emojis are awesome. Love them 😀
Cashews, almonds and pistachios. Preferably in butter form! Your view is pretty stunning too 🙂
What sort of work outs do you do- is there a gym in your basement? Our uni accommodation annex had a small theatre/ dance studio where we used to hold Zumba classes during exam season!
Have a lovely week xx
Nutter butter is the ?
There isn’t a gym in the basement (unfortunately). I mostly do videos from Jessica Smith and FitnessBlender on YouTube right now, as well as some CorePower yoga. When it’s warmer, I do like to run outside. And I love going to the gym, but ours doesn’t open early enough for my liking. Also, it’s kinda far 😛 It’s really cool that yours was so close!
Oh my gosh, I wish donut making was in my day plan! This makes me really miss college life!
Haha it’s not a bad way to destress 😉
I love your rational on the heat! I say turn it up too, I am ALWAYS cold lol.
Haha it’s a nice little luxury 😉
Girl, i rarely ever make it past 10pm so you don’t have anything to worry about 😛 I’m always awake either right on 6am or just before so I need my sleep! 😛
I’m an early riser, too! Early to rise –> early to bed!
That shake look so so yummy #jealous 😉 My favorite nuts are almonds and pecans. Have a great day!
Blessings,
Edye
Haha it was delicious! Have a great one!
Your post totally makes me miss college. Those donuts are adorable and I wish someone would make me donuts!! My favorite nut(s) would definitely have to be almonds, with pecans coming up as a close second. I think it might be weird that I like them so much. My favorite emoji is the nerdy glasses emoji tied up with the monkey covering his eyes. They both sum up my life pretty well, lol. I hope you’re having a lovely day!
I think almonds and pecans are pretty lovely 🙂 LOL I think those emojis are adorable! Happy weekend!
Love these types of posts!! It’s so crazy to read college posts because I feel like I was just living this lifestyle even though it was like…4 years ago now. Ah. I also don’t think I ever woke up in the 5:00 AMs in college. I thought 9 AM was early then….how times have changed
Haha sometimes I think a later wake-up time would be nice but my body apparently disagrees ?
