Hello, there! It’s been a few days since we last talked, but I hope you had a lovely weekend. I certainly did! Aaaand now, I’m going to tell you about it.
My Friday-day was rather boringly responsible, and I finished up reading The Republic. And as glad as I am that it’s over, it means I’ll be spending the next week writing a paper on it. So look for me to be devouring all the Oreos next week.
I continued my responsibility into early Friday evening by reading the econ chapters we’ll be going over today.
But around 5:00 on Friday, my day got a little more exciting. The residential faculty members (RMs) in my dorm put together a little TED-talk style reception and invited three professors to come give quick talks and mingle with students over appetizers and endless dessert (the chocolate mousse cake was perfection).
An economics professor, a chemistry professor, and an orchestra maestro spoke, and they were all fun to listen to, but I most enjoyed talking to the econ professor after the mini-lectures for about an hour. Honestly, that was kind of my favorite thing ever, and I’m planning on taking a class of his next quarter (and also maybe occasionally sitting in on the one he’s teaching this quarter because he said I could).
This is my idea of fun (nerd alert?).

After the reception, I finished up some reading and forced myself to stay up until some friends started watching V is for Vendetta down in the lounge. But, um, it was almost midnight by the time the movie started and I am apparently incapable of staying up much later than 12:30, so I didn’t make it through anywhere close to the whole movie.
I had a slow morning on Saturday, and my roommate and I hung out and did some more homework (calculus for me) until it was time for our house auction. Basically, in an attempt to raise money for subsidized tickets to events and field trips and such, members of my house put up goods and services (I offered convenience store runs and on-demand pans of brownies), and other members bid on them. That took up a couple of hours and led right up to a study break held by the RMs, which featured hot chocolate and leftover desserts from the night before.
Later on, I went to Chipotle and a used bookstore with a couple of friends. We discovered some interesting coffee table books about bunny suicides and funny restaurant names. It was fun, and I crashed soon after. Soooo sleepy.
Sunday was another lazy/work morning, and then I went grocery shopping and found out exactly how much yogurt I can store in my minifridge. It’s packed in there, but ummmm, it was 10 for $10. And I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to get the Pumpkin Spice Chobani.
{I think there are over 30 yogurts there…}
And then after house meeting, I crashed once again. Yesterday involved going to my econ TA’s office hours, a writing seminar for my philosophy class, and my calc TA’s office hours. Also, I did laundry. Exciting.
Now, I have a massive headache and a long day ahead, so as I prepare to snack and wind down, I leave you with a picture of one of the last warm (so perfectly gorgeous) days Chicago probably has left in it.
What goods/services would you be willing to auction off?
Early bird or night owl?
How’ve you been? How was your weekend? I like hearing about you!

Hi, there!
I could auction off sets of notecards, pots of chili, or batches of cookies.
I am more of a night owl. I require some wake up time.
Weekends are always good, and for the most part, relaxing. This coming weekend will be filled with much excitement as we head to Vegas for the first time!

I’d pay for some chili 😉 I can’t wait to hear about Vegas! I’m a teeeeeny bit jealous.
Sounds like a productive weekend 🙂 Your school looks gorgeous! Hmm I’d probably auction off cookies as well. I’m a night owl but love getting up early as well…which is problematic when it comes to getting enough sleep! My weekends been lazy and relaxing 🙂 Have a good week!
Haha I understand about getting enough sleep. It’s an eternal struggle 😉 Lazy weekends are super nice. Hope your week is going well!
I am so jealous of all your limited edition flavors of stuff!! Pumpkin spice Chobani??? Talk about yummilicious!! I looked at our supermarket for flavored Oreos, but they didn’t have any of your special ones, so I might have to check around. 🙂
I am a total early bird. I used to not be able to sleep in past 4:30, due to health issues; now I can force myself to go back to sleep, but I can. not. sleep past 7:30. Plus, I am a lot perkier in the morning and can pretty much roll out of bed and do anything, but I get so tired at night, I have to go to bed ridiculously early!! I try to stay up when my night owl family/friends want to party later, but I can barely keep my eyes open.
I’ve been super-busy!! Saturday, my sibs and I had a fun kids’ night with my nephew, eating dinner while watching one of our favorite cooking shows. And Sunday was so relaxing, especially after a crazy week and an even crazier week coming up…we read some of our book that we’re reading together as a family and just hung out, chatting together! One of the best ways to spend the weekend. 😉
Limited edition stuff is great – except then they go an take it away 😉
Yeah, 7:30 is about my cut-off… but 5:30-6:30 is more the norm for me. Early bedtime is a must.
Ah that sounds so fun! What a nice weekend 🙂 Hope your week is going well!
