It’s been a super productive week and things feel like they’re in pretty good shape. We’ll be in even better shape after this weekend. I’m hoping that by the end of the weekend the guest room and nursery are both usable.
Work is still crazy for both Jack and I, and he had drill last weekend, so we haven’t had a ton of downtime. I would like to think that after this weekend, we’ll feel good about the state of things and rest more, but I know us well enough to know that’s unlikely.

I’m Pregnant! + The First Trimester
At 31 weeks pregnant, baby girl is supposedly the size of a jicama.
Symptoms
My hunger has been all over the place this week. When baby girl in some positions, I feel full no matter when I last ate, and then she moves and I realize I’m actually hungry.
I’ve upped the aloe water, senna, and magnesium again. My doctor says I probably should continue at that dose as baby girl gets bigger.
My sciatica is back, but only really when I wake up and late at night. It takes a minute to adjust and then it disappears.
I have to pee a whole lot and I’m crazy thirsty.
I slept pretty terribly for most of the week. There were a few nights when I couldn’t fall asleep until pretty late, and even more when I woke up at 1am or 2am and was up for couple hours.
My belly button has totally popped out.
I get out of breath so, so easily, despite keeping up a decent workout routine my whole pregnancy. Like, if I talk too much, I sound like I went for a jog.
Baby girl is crazy active and she really likes to curl up in a ball on my right side.
I’m up 18-20 pounds and my belly is measuring right about on track.
You can no longer tell me I don’t look pregnant.
Food
My diet is still pretty much my normal. I made chicken and dumplings and spicy sausage and peppers pasta for dinners. Since Jack was gone last weekend for drill, I ate leftovers of that and the curry I made last week while he was gone (plus a few meals with my parents).
And then this week I made the best lasagna ever, which will probably feed us through today since we went on an impromptu date night last night. I make the lasagna without pesto most of the time because we don’t feel like it adds that much, but it’s still great with pesto.
Aside from that, I’ve had a lot of apples, grapes, pears peanut butter, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and dates. And I’ve still been picking at the Halloween candy Jack picked up to hand out to our zero trick-or-treaters.
Exercise
I’m still following the Expecting and Empowered pregnancy guide, so that covered three of my workouts, and I’ve been doing some pelvic floor and flexibility work most days.
I walked the boys a few days last week, and with plenty of housework to do, I’ve been staying active and my body feels tired at the end of most days. Like I said earlier, I get out of breath pretty easily but I’m trying to keep up with all the stuff we want to do around here. Jack tells me to rest more and I… sometimes listen. But this week, I didn’t really listen.
Preparations
I washed all the baby stuff we have last week, and it’s all in the nursery (though not yet organized). I also prepped about 2 weeks’ worth of lunches and dinners to freeze. Once we pull the chest freezer in from the garage and put it down in the basement, I’ll transport everything to there and then add more, but I have completely maxed out the space in our tiny regular freezer.
Last weekend, I bought a bunch of stuff I’d been putting off. We purchased a king-sized bedroom suite a couple months ago that now won’t be here till February, so I bought the mattress and a cheap platform bed last weekend. That way, we can have our room at least set up for a king before baby girl arrives. I also got the comforter for our room and comforter and curtains for the guest room.
I’m on the hunt for nursing-friendly clothes that aren’t just nursing clothes. Plus nursing bras that work nicely under normal clothes.
Stories
Ben has become extra insistent about laying on my hip and/or resting his head on my belly when I’m sitting with him on the couch. It’s adorable, if not always the most comfortable.
Both dogs have been following me pretty much everywhere, like they might know something is up and I need protecting. One night, I couldn’t get comfortable in bed, so I came downstairs to try to get a couple hours of sleep on the couch, and Willis came and laid right next to my spot on the couch. When I go upstairs to wash my face after dinner, the boys both follow me and lay outside the bathroom.
