It’s been a long week. It was full of work and work around the house, and we made more progress on our pre-baby / general house to-do list. Jack built a compost system for when we start our gardens next spring and cleared the brush from a good chunk of our woods and started to line a path.
I did a bunch of cleaning and errands, and finally got a new mirror for our half bathroom, and my mom finished sanding the trim in the guest room. I had one successful go at sanding the baseboards (in an N95 mask and nerdy goggles) and every other time I’ve tried, it’s made me nearly sick. So, I am out of that business for now.
We also managed to have a very restful rainy Sunday, and it was lovely.

I’m Pregnant! + The First Trimester
At 25 weeks pregnant, baby girl is supposedly the length of a red cabbage.
Symptoms
Aside from yesterday, my hunger has felt pretty normal this week. I had two big meals and a small snack on Sunday, and I can’t think of another day since early in my first trimester where I’d have been able to do that, even though it’s how I ate on a lot of weekend days prior to being pregnant. That said, yesterday I was distractingly hungry half the afternoon and it took 4 different snacks to satisfy me.
If I take aloe water, senna, and a stupid amount of magnesium, the constipation is manageable.
My sciatica has been a lot better this week, for no reason I can think of, but I’ll take it.
I have to pee a whole lot, and sometimes I think I can feel baby girl kick/hit my bladder.
My gums are irritated and I hate brushing my teeth right now because it’s not comfy.
I’m still sleeping well and a lot, and I even took an accidental 2-hour nap on Sunday. I’m enjoying the sleep while it lasts, since I’m assuming it’ll get scarcer as little girl gets bigger. Which she does every single day, I think. I’m somewhere between 12-14 pounds above my normal weight.
Baby girl is especially active in the evenings, but I feel her move throughout the day most days, particularly after I eat. Jack can feel her move most of the time, and we’re pretty sure she responds to his voice and touch.
Food
My diet is still pretty much my normal, plus snacks. Everything we ate this week was fantastic and will be repeated:
- Fried Chicken Sandwiches
- Shrimp Pad Thai (we didn’t think this tasted very much like Pad Thai, but it was still delicious)
- Hoisin Glazed Salmon with sautéed spinach & shiitakes
- Brown Butter Scallops with Parmesan Risotto (I used a whole 10oz bag of spinach because it cooks down so much)
- Spicy Black Bean & Chicken Enchiladas with Pumpkin Sour Cream Sauce
- Sesame Beef & Broccoli
- A few dinners out
Aside from that, I’ve had a lot of apples, grapes, peanut butter, skyr, cottage cheese, bagels, and Siete Grain-Free Mexican Chocolate Cookies. And some Cold Stone Cake Batter Batter Batter ice cream. And some pumpkin cinnamon rolls.
Exercise
I’m continuing to follow the Expecting and Empowered pregnancy guide, so that covers three of my workouts a week. I actually split it into four this week because there were a few times when I needed a 30-minute workout and those typically take closer to 45 minutes for me. Aside from that, I’ve mostly been walking the dogs once or twice a day and doing chores around the house.
Stories
Almost all the maternity clothes I bought are from PinkBlush. They’re pretty cute and were reasonably priced, but right as I went to wash them, I noticed they are also mostly “hand wash only.” Fortunately, they seem to be fine if I was them on cold/delicate and air dry them.
As of the very beginning of my 25th week of pregnancy, Jack and I have been together for three years!

Your meals sound like all the things I would have trouble choosing from the menu at a great restaurant.
