It’s been a good week! It was full of work and work around the house, and we made some progress on our pre-baby to-do list.
And we’re trying to make time for rest. It’s a lot in the very best way.

I’m Pregnant! + The First Trimester
At 24 weeks pregnant, baby girl is supposedly the length of an acorn squash.
Symptoms
I’m hungry a lot of the time and I’m also bored with food. We eat super well for meals, but I’m only hungry for normal-sized meals and then find myself needing snacks, and I find snacks boring.
If I take aloe water, senna, and a stupid amount of magnesium, the constipation is manageable.
Still having some sciatica symptoms. It mostly hurts at night and it makes laying down uncomfy. Also, one night it was happening on the left side, which is new. Ask me if I’ve called the prenatal chiropractor, and the answer is no. It’s on my list of things to do.
I have to pee a whole lot, and sometimes I think I can feel baby girl kick/hit my bladder.
My gums are starting to get irritated and bleed when I brush my teeth again. This happened for a couple weeks in the first trimester, but then it stopped for a while. It’s back.
I still do plank variations and core work, but my abs are getting to be useless for things like sitting up. I have to use my arms to push/pull me up or roll onto my side and then push up. Or ask for help.
I’m still sleeping well and a lot. My usual 5am wake-ups are feeling rough, and I more often get up closer to 6.
My bump gets bigger every day, I think. Little girl is growing like a weed!
Baby girl is especially active in the evenings, but I feel her move throughout the day most days. Jack can feel her pretty much any time I can, and we think she even responds to his voice sometimes. But it could have been a coincidence.
Food
My diet is still pretty much my normal, plus snacks. Everything we ate this week was fantastic and will be repeated:
- Crispy Chicken Khao Soi Noodle Soup from Half-Baked Harvest Super Simple
- Healthier Homemade Hamburger Helper (I doubled most of the spices and used frozen spinach instead of zucchini because my zucchini went bad)
- Baked Shrimp with Feta
- Pot roast
- Broccoli Cheddar Chicken & Rice Casserole
- A few dinners out
Aside from that, I’ve had a lot of apples, grapes, peanut butter, skyr, cottage cheese, celery, and bagels. And some Cold Stone Cake Batter Batter Batter ice cream. Jack and I discovered it during an emergency-ice-cream-delivery situation a couple weeks ago and it’s now one of our shared favorite ice cream flavors.
Exercise
I’m continuing to follow the Expecting and Empowered pregnancy guide, so that covers three of my workouts a week. Aside from that, I’ve mostly been walking the dogs once or twice a day and doing chores around the house.
Stories
Ben laid on my stomach (gently!) for a half an hour the other morning and it was the sweetest thing.
I never wanted to move.
My mom helped me pick a bunch of maternity clothes! I’m excited for cooler weather for a thousand reasons, but wearing them is one. As of the end of this week, my shorts no longer fit comfortably. 🙂
