Can I have started nesting? I feel like I’ve started nesting…
I just ordered a new bedroom suite so we can move our mattress into the guest bedroom and get a king-sized one for our room, I’m desperate to decorate the house, and I can’t wait to stock the freezer with stuff for us to eat after the baby is born.
Last weekend, Jack had his first National Guard drill since having appendicitis. My mom came up for a bit to help me shop for house stuff and maternity clothes, and start the giant undertaking of sanding and refinishing our baseboards, and my dad came up with their dog to wear all the dogs out (and to help clean up a few things in the house!).

I’m Pregnant! + The First Trimester
At 22 weeks pregnant, baby girl is supposedly the length of an eggplant.
Symptoms
I think I’ve only been nauseated once in the last week! I’m frequently hungry, but not sick so much anymore.
If I take aloe water, senna, and a stupid amount of magnesium, the constipation is manageable. It’s quite the regimen.
Still having some sciatica symptoms. It mostly hurts at night and it makes laying down uncomfy. One night, I couldn’t walk without limping. I was totally fine the next morning. I asked my doctor why that might be happening, figuring it was something to do with how I sit or some lack of strength, and she said it’s probably more a combination of where baby girl likes to hang out inside me (low by my right hip) and the fact that I’m pretty small and don’t have a lot of room to share with her. She also referred me to a prenatal chiropractor, which I’m planning to look into.
I have to pee all the freaking time. At my ultrasound last week, I had a baby’s head right on my bladder, so that makes a lot of sense.
The pregnancy brain thing is still happening. I lose my train of thought in the middle of sentences all the time.
I’m still sleeping a lot. I nap whenever I can, and I even slept in till almost-7 a few days last weekend.
My bump has popped quite a bit! It still can’t effectively hold up maternity pants or fill out a maternity shirt, but it’s not hide-able anymore. I saw my mom this weekend and she said the difference in the week since we were in Atlanta is pretty pronounced. I’ll get you a pic for next week!
Once I heard the “gas bubbles popping in your stomach” description of baby movements, something clicked. I feel her move all the time. I 100% thought my stomach was just a little upset thanks to all the laxatives, but now I recognize that a lot of the gurgle-y feelings were baby girl tumbling around.
Food
My diet is still pretty much my normal, plus snacks:
- Chili leftovers
- Pork Milanese + Roasted Broccoli Salad
- Golden Chicken Soup + bread
- Walnut-Crusted Chicken + roasted asparagus from Half Baked Harvest Super Simple
- Carne Asada from Half Baked Harvest Super Simple
I’m enjoying the last really good watermelons and trying to find a fall substitute. I’d like to think society is advanced enough that we can eat good watermelon year-round, but I’ve never been one to buy watermelons in October, so I don’t know that for a fact. I’m also particularly into bagels lately.
Exercise
I’m continuing to follow the Expecting and Empowered pregnancy guide, so that covers three of my workouts a week. Aside from that, I’ve mostly been walking the dogs once or twice a day and doing chores around the house.
Stories
Jack can feel baby kicks now! He also suggested we start decorating the nursery, so we ordered some art. I’m planning to keep things pretty neutral with a little pink, and not get anything too cutesy. I know myself and that I’ll get sick of it if I go too crazy with a theme. Plus, if we’re lucky enough to have more kiddos, I want most of what we have to work for a boy or a girl.
Ben still prefers to be partially on top of me at all times he isn’t outside.
He sometimes grumbles when he’s 6 inches away, gets up, plops on my leg, and proceeds to be satisfied in that position for an hour or more.
We had another Maternal Fetal Medicine appointment and everything looks good! We don’t have to go back. As far as I can tell, that doesn’t mean I’m not “high risk” anymore, though. It was always pretty clear that I’m the relatively high-risk one, and there weren’t real concerns about baby girl. But it’s good to get confirmation! And we’ve gotten to spend a lot of time looking at her little hands and feet and heart, with a couple quick glimpses of her face, so it’s been pretty nice.
