How was your week? Mine was very full between working a lot and keeping up with the house/dogs/yard mostly on my own. Jack tried to help out, but I wanted him to prioritize resting. Appendectomies are simple surgeries, but from what I can tell, the recovery is still not fun. Next week will be better, though! Let’s get to the pregnancy stuff.
Previous Updates
I’m Pregnant! + The First Trimester
At 16 weeks pregnant, baby girl is supposedly the length of a pear.
Symptoms
I’ve again been alternating between being really nauseated some days and really hungry others.
Constipation is still very much a thing, and nothing is helping at the moment.
My boobs (still) feel heavy and huge.
I (still) think I have a tiny bit of sciatica and I have to pee all the freaking time.
I have been forgetting absolutely everything, and I’m not used to it at all. Usually, I can listen to a meeting without taking notes and then download everything onto paper after, keep our entire calendar in my head, and set mental timers for things. Now, I’ve forgotten 95% of what happened within five minutes of the meeting, so I have notes all over my desk and four open emails to myself with fragments from different conversations. I’m having to be more consistent about writing down our plans and my to-do lists. And I left the salmon out to defrost for too long the other day, so we ended up ordering dinner.
I’m still sleeping a lot, with naps whenever I can get them, but this week extra sleep has mostly looked like passing out shortly after dinner.
No real bump progress to speak of; it looks a lot like last week.
Food
My diet is a variation on my normal. We had Korean beef bowls, pesto mini meatball soup and the easiest bread, and sausage and peppers this week. Plus Chipotle on the day I let the salmon thaw too long.
When I’m feeling extra sick in the morning, I graze on blueberries or watermelon, and I occasionally need a spoonful of peanut butter or something to tide me over till lunch. I’ve been satisfying pre-dinner sweet cravings with some my grandma’s zucchini bread and the occasional Perfect Bar, but those are gone now. I’m obviously writing this before you’ll read it, but I cried earlier today because we were out of dessert, so I ordered ingredients via Instacart and baked peanut butter swirl brownies and pumpkin bread this evening.
Exercise
I’m continuing to follow the Expecting and Empowered pregnancy guide, so that was three of my workouts last week.
As I mentioned last week, I’ve been prioritizing dog walks to see if it solves Ben’s lack of interest in his food. We took four walks between 25 and 35 minutes, and I walked/ran with the boys another three times for about two miles each. It’s nice to get more steps in and spend some extra time outside, and it does seem to be helping Ben have more of an appetite and be less restless.
Stories
Along with the forgetfulness, my brain just seems to be absent sometimes. Like when I was eating ice cream one night and, by my account, put the pint away. But then Jack went to the kitchen a while later and asked me if I meant to put the ice cream in the freezer. Which I did, because that’s where ice cream belongs. But it was in the fridge and I had no recollection of putting it there.
I walked out of the house to go to dinner with my parents wearing my too-big slippers. My mom had just pulled out of the driveway when I looked down and noticed the error.
Your turn:
What are you up to this weekend? Chores, shopping, and hopefully acquiring a chest freezer from my aunt and uncle if Jack is up for the drive. Gotta start making freezer meals to have on hand when we have a newborn!

Glad everything is going well. Love the Ben photo! 🙂 I saw the email you sent me and I tried to send a reply but unfortunately my email address is still not letting me send emails to your email address for some reason.
That’s so strange, I’m sorry! ellen@ellencslater.com?
It’s fine – it’s a me problem not a you problem, and yes it’s that email address. 🙂
