It’s been a long week, but for a different reason than last week: Jack got appendicitis this weekend. On Sunday, he woke feeling bad and all day I tried to convince him it was appendicitis, and he said it was just a bad stomachache. But on Monday, it became pretty obvious that’s what it was, so he went to the emergency room in the afternoon and an appendectomy late that night. So, I took a few days off work to take care of him. And, on top of that, work has been crazy and my brain has mostly been fried. 🙂 I have very few pictures for you, but I’m going to make good on my weekly pregnancy updates promise. I’ll do even better next week. Let’s get to it.
Previous Updates
I’m Pregnant! + The First Trimester
At 15 weeks pregnant, baby girl is supposedly the length of an avocado.
Symptoms
I’ve again been alternating between being really nauseated some days and really hungry others.
Constipation is still very much a thing. I finally got more aloe water and it’s starting to help again.
My boobs feel heavy and huge.
I think I have a tiny bit of sciatica and I have to pee all the freaking time.
I have been an emotional wreck. Last Thursday evening, I alternated between bawling my eyes out (over nothing) and laughing hysterically at how much of a pregnancy caricature I was being for about an hour, and I only stopped when I fell asleep. And everything makes me cry, from the smallest inconvenience to the Olympics commercial with Regan Smith’s grandma to Ben being his normal cute self.
I’m still sleeping a lot, with naps whenever I can get them, including after I brought Jack home from the hospital, last night before dinner, and twice over the weekend. If I had to guess, I’d say I haven’t slept this much since I was a toddler.
I’ve developed a little bump! My pants still fit and I mostly look like I ate a little too much, but I know it’s a bump.
Food
This is uninteresting, but mostly have been eating normally, sometimes a mid-morning or bedtime snack that I wouldn’t have otherwise had. I’ll say that all junk food sounds extra good but not so good that I have to go out and get Oreos and Reese’s cups when the craving strikes. I’ve been satisfying the sweet cravings with some homemade zucchini bread, banana bread, and a little ice cream. Oh, and we did have pizza. And grilled cheese. That was great. And I want a burger.
Like I said, it all sounds great, but mostly I’m eating eggs, cottage cheese, skyr, my weight in fruit, and pulled pork salads full of leafy greens and crunchy veggies and avocado.
Exercise
I’m continuing to follow the Expecting and Empowered pregnancy guide, so that was three of my workouts last week. I also did another shorter, more intense lift.
Since we moved to a house with land, I haven’t prioritized walking the dogs all that much. After all, they have a bunch of room to roam around out back now. But Ben has been acting pretty weird the last few weeks, after I really stopped taking them for walks most days, so I’m testing taking them for walk/runs on the days I’m not strength training and at least getting them out for a shorter walk on the days I am strength training. The “longer” loop I take them on is just under 2 miles, and it usually takes us around 25 minutes if we’re walk/running and 35 minutes if we’re just walking. There is no just running with them, because Ben needs to stop and sniff regularly.
Stories
I started browsing for things on a registry for my baby shower! This was both exciting and overwhelming, and I’ll have to go through and audit it later because I was kind of just adding all the things. I finally understood what it meant when people say babies are expensive.
Ben curled up directly on my stomach last weekend when I wasn’t feeling well, and it melted my heart.
Your turn:
Do you have any baby must-haves I should be registering for?
What are you up to this weekend? I’ll be doing some chores and errands and hopefully resting with Jack while he continues to recover. And maybe going to dinner with my parents on Saturday if he’s up for it!

Jack’s appendicitis sounds scary! I’m glad he got in before it burst and hope he feels better soon!

It was a crazy couple days, but I’m also glad we got it taken care of quickly! He’s recovering pretty well 🙂
